Sagall BE PREPARED Scout Motto, World-Wid- e ficient fire wood to help out some infirm person in their midst, or being the first to fender aid in a frightful railroad accident in one of the eastern " states.", . 7Z..S . Here in our beautiful city, surrounded by mountains, rivers and lake, we find the natural environment for scouting. Quite true we are fortunate in not having saloon slums and ihe many other meana of wice, but nevertheless, small vices creep in everywhere and if a boy, on his honor, takes the Scout oath he will not readily yield to i THE SCOUT OATH Un my honor I will do my best:' . To dp my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Laws. 2. To help other people at all times. 3. To keep myself physically-steng- , mentally 1. awake and morally straight. Since the commencement of the world-wa- r now raging iif Europe, wehave read from time to time in the several news dispatches of exploits by Boy Scouts in each of the respective countries. They are. doing excellent work assisting the relief committees, Red Cross organizations, and in some instances guarding communication and carrying dispatches. To do and carry out these features the Boy Scout is prepared. is theirrnot--- : Be Prepared to and when one considers the third portion of the oath, it can readily be seen "why they are always prepared. For these boys to give their time ana devote their energies to the work now being done abroad, one must consider the motive. It is true en every community that some people appear indifferent to calls made by charitable organiza- tions to assist with relief work, whether the nr- gency be local, state wide or of moment to the entire nation. The Boy Scout finds his motive for his actions in' the first two ortibriiT of' the' To do his duty to God and to his Scout Oath and obey the Scout Laws, and To country , help other people at all times. To the Boy Scout, his oath means everything, because, he promises on his honor to obey it. The entire fabric of Scoutcraft is based on honor and on service. What nation could ask jnore o! its boys and young men than honor, Honor, the most important pillar of society. However, we need not look abroad for examples of Boy Scout demonstrations. In our broad land we read of Scouts In New Jersey .Booming the woods for the body of an old lady who in a demented frame of mind wandered off and perished. In a number of communities Boy Scouts are collecting food, clothing and toys for the poor, together and trooping off to the woods and cutting down and hauling auf- gath-eringcro- temptation- ps u . two-stor- five-roo- on-Wes- y- m six-roo- m neat-mottl- red brick cottage; Vern Da via, . pretty five-roomottle brick cottage; Mrs. Mad a neat five-roofive-roobuff brick bungalo.
