On Flag day, June 14, hundreua of Elks from Salt Lake City and other cities will be here to participate in the flag day exercises of the local Elks. The bankers of - the state will h4ld their thirteenth annual gathering here on the 17th and 18th, and the annual outing of the Utah State Press Association will be here on the 26th arid 27th. Since these conventions mean much to Provo it behooves, all of her citizens to cooperate to make the stay of the visitors as pleasant and enjoyable as possible. As an illustration of the publicity Provo receives from such gatherings the following is taken from a recent issue of the Mountain States Banker published at Denver: Provo, where the convention is to be held, is one of the most interesting and at- tractive little cities in the West. It is known as the Garden Spot of Utah. The county seat of Utah county, it was here one of the earliest settlement of the West was located by hardy pioneers who laid the foundation for a. future wealth of which they little dreamed. It is at the bape of the Wasatch range of mountains and lies on the shore of beautiful Utah lake. It is the home of the Brigham Young University, and the center ; of great commercial activity. The banking interests of the section are ably taken care of by four banks, all of - which rank among, the strongest in the t ' state, and have the confidence of the people. Provo has Always been a city of homes. . The healthy environment for the young people coupled with the splendid educational facilities bring families from Ail over the - country to live here. There are many men who have their interests elsewhere who are building and buying homes in Provo to raise their families. From an educational standpoint it " 5udeed fortunate. If such young people as a result pf conditions that they find in large cities, or as a result of being away from helpful home influences, suffer a decline in physical condition, if they yield to the temptations which come when people live among strangers, if .their conduct and careers prove disappointing, some part of the responsibility may rest on you. You helped drive them away from your home community, by refusing to support your home town enterprises. You did not help your home community to develop in such a way that it could offer good business induceof-your -- ments to these young people. TAKING LOSSES. Some people have fretted and brooded oyer the losses they suffered in the deflation period. They have settled down in a rut, taking what trade comes along, doing nothing to bring their business before the public. They take the greatest risk of all, that of stagnation of being crowd- ed out by more aggressive people. Other people see the brighter side and think the country is recovering better than can be expected from its inflation. They look to the future instead of on the past. They see the country entering a new era of prosperity, in which they are determined bv good service and persisting to have a share. These are the people whe will be the business leaders in a few years. A hard nameTionestly acquired Is rather to be choseri than a high name dishonestly acquired.
