Garvin, general manager of the association, recommended general of improvement jn packing fruit to he shipped out of Utah,. .. Mr, Garvinsay s jn hiare-por- t that during a recent visit with commission merchants in igoKansas CRy and points of Texas and OKWnoma he heard Utah apples praised above all others. However, he declared that carelessness "of Utah fruitgrowers in packing fruit is the cause for some complaint. Giving proof of the fact that Utah apples and peaches are attracting the attention of consumers in at least of . the states in the United -- States, Mr. Garvin showed In hisTreport that during 1913 apples and peaches were shipped from Utah in large quantities to 106 cities in thirty two different states. Mr. Garvin believesJhat if,Utah fruitgrowers make it a point to pack their fruit better than the prdoucers of other states, Utah will win fame all over the United States as a center for superior fruit. In Good Financial Condition. The meeting was called to order in the assembly room at the Com merciql club at 11 oclock yester day forenoon, with more than 100 stockholders in attendance, representing every part of the state. The reading and discussion, of the reports of General Manager Gar-ri- n Homand Secretary-Treasurier occupied most of the forenoon 'session. Mr. Homers report showed that the association is in good financial standing and that local banks' have shown enthusiasm over the general- prosperity of fruitgrowers -- whose credits have become unquestionable. Mr. Iloraer also announced that the .membership of the association increased 62 per cent in 1912A' general review of fruit conditions throughout the west took place during the afternoon, when other apple, and peach producing states were compared with Utah. In every comparison it was shown lhat Utah fruit is of superiorual-ity- . Several speakers discussed the necessity! improving the packing of apples and peaches and a campaign will be instituted next fall in favor of greater attention in 'the packing of fruit. It is possible an expert at fruit packing may be sent through the state to give instructions in -- regard -- to economical packing and selection . 'of fruit. Directors Are Elected.
