Show Page Eight . Utah Valley is on the eve of one of the greatest land developments In the history of the State. More than one hundred thousand acres will be under n.ew water systems this coming summer.;:; The people are not yet; fully prepared for the transformation that these new systems will impart. They have not fully anticipated the water by digging lateral ditches and plowing their lands. The greatest of all systems of irrigation is, of course the Strawberry Reservoir, or government project. More than sixty thousand acres will come under it. "The land is mostly owned now by private parties, who have given their lands as security for the water. It will cost .in the neighborhood of three million dollars are built, the great five mile tunnel through the great Wasatch range dug and feeding canals at the reservoirs completed, there still remains jnuch to do in the valley in canal construcof the water users, before the wation and the ter can be turned down this way. In fact, the government work appears now to be well in advance of the farmers Prop- - ting in the plough sha're a few inches deeper. The soil will grow all the crops suitable to this altitude and zone, and is particularly well adapte'd to sugar beet growing. The new- beet sugar factories are being built this year to take care of this rich crop. The lands are mostly in the favored Spanish Fork canyon wind belt, and. tens of thousands of acres will be the best of f ruit lands. G reat cities will grow up in the center of these rich lauds, and Utah County will in ten years rival in . - , , s ly boring lands. . The north end of the county is be farmed without ; Water, and will be great producers, when the waters of Utah Lake ar pumped on them. The Utah Lake Irrigation Company is getting ready to lift a veritable river onto these lands. . The company has filed on four hundred second feet, and a million dollars worth of work Las already been dono toward pumping up the waters of the lake on these land Land owners are doing the canal digging, and the company is putting m half a million dollars in pumping. e Th i rty thousand acres will come under the canal's pfthi of business Lehi people are preparing for the rush that will naturally result from this great boom in .their neigh-- , t A , THE SOURCE OP OUR NEW IRRIGATION SYSTEMS w - v r, smaller pumping plants are being put in, to irrigate private holdings. Sixty thousand acres ! The mind can hardly grasp the extent of this great land opening. v The lands are the most favored by nature in the entire West. Ages have elapsed in building up their richness, and the soil is sp deep that after farming the surface for an inde-- 1 finite period, practically a new farm may be obtained by put- day-dreami- ng dollars, and each settler will spend from two to three thousand dollars in meters and ,pipe. The Utah Power Comply has promised to do much toward encouraging the farmers in thi3 kind of development. It will be a new era in this kind of irrigation, but one that has come: to stay... The waters of Uta Lake will be augmented, by the Strawberry waters, and the Salt Lake county companies will not be encroached upuu in the least. The pioneer company in the pumping was the Mosida company, which lias already ten thousand acres under redemption, sold to eastern parties, who are well pleased with their phone systems, and great department stores are bound to be mostly investment. The pumping charges of this great company are after the trade of so rich an agricultural section. nuch more than the maintenance charges of thencaftals in" t ing vigorously toward the great redemption of lands west and ' other parts of the valley. nt The Moore Independent Drug Iledquist Drug Company for so Co,has secured the services of Mr. many years.
