The two new junior high school buildings alone, authorized by a bond election, are responsible for a 2-mlil raise alone to retire the bonds, it was brought out. Dr. M. H. Harris, statistician for the Utah Taxpayers' association made brief remarks, emphasizing the necessity of recognizing the 10 percent or more delinquent taxes which probably would not be collected next fall. He also pointed out minor economies that might be made in textbooks, supplies and other items. Remarks were made by H. Al-dous Al-dous Dixon, W. R. Butler, Dr. L. W. Oaks, Dr. H, M. Woodward, Prof. M. Wilford Poulson, Lester Tay- ftor, Victor C Anderson and J. El mer Jacobsen, former city commissioner. com-missioner. Opposes Raise Mr. Jacobsen cautioned against raising the tax levies which already al-ready amount to almost five percent per-cent of its value. He declared that home ownership in Provo is on the decline. There are more delinquent de-linquent mortgages in Provo tnis year than there has been for 25 years, he said. Mr. Dixon offered the suggestion that Provo's troubles, like many other Utah school districts was in spending too much for material facilities at the expense of the teaching personnel. He did hot dispute the need of more buildings but questioned our ability to pay for them. Mr. Butler commended the program pro-gram sponsored by Superintendent Smith and declared himself in favor of carrying it out if the tax levies could provide the necessary funds.
