Show COMPULSORY EDUCATION. The School Board Propose to .Enforce The Law -Re port of the liuiness Transacted Trans-acted Last Night by the Board. The board of education met in regular regu-lar session last evening and trans acted the following business: Requests from Meliuda Bum, Joseph A. Meldrum and N. Hallett, pupiis over eighteen years oi age, asking that they be permitted to attend the city schools free,were read and the requests granted. The committee on sites and buildings presented three reports ail of whish were adopted. (1) Recommending that the city water be laid to the liinpanogoa school-house; school-house; that hitching posts be placeed in front of the building; that 30 feet of common fence, six feet high, be constructed con-structed running from the present fence to connect with the end of coal huuse, and that locks be placed on closets and coal shed. (2) Recommending that the city water be not laid to the Mountain schoolhouse at present. (3) Recommending that loose bricks in wall under the northwest window of the Webster schoolhouse be taken out and replaced with mortar, and that no additional closets be built at present. A Elight difference as to the number num-ber of committees necessary arGse among the trustees and the consideration considera-tion ot the matter oi adopting a set oi rules, owing to this, wab postponed till next meeting. The sum ot $30 00 was appropriated with which to pay Eph Homer, city superintendent of waterworks, for the city water to December 31, 1805. A ciaim of $6.00 pre: en ted by Man Lewis for servicea as special teacher, was referred to the committee on teachers teach-ers and school work. The committee on supplies reported, recommending that 1,000 printed letter head3 be orded from tne Enquirer printing company for the price of $2.85. Adopted. The lowest competing bid was $3.50. A clam by the Provo Co-op. for supplies, sup-plies, $7,30 wa3 allowed; also by V. L. Halliday $20.00 for canvassing election returns and by Sam'l Rieske. $1.10 for repairs. The bond of the clerk in the sum of $1000.00 was approyed. The president was authorized to have printed 100 notices to parentB of children chil-dren of school age not attending school and drawing their attention to the cjmpulsory provision of the school law. lioard adjourned. |
