Show DIVIDINC UTAH COUNTY. The American Fork Independent ha commenced agitating the question of dividing Utah county. Among other J things it says in support of its proposi tion is that it would not entail any expense to make two counties out of one, but that on the other hand it vould result in much benefit, at least t,. i. ... lu taxpayers living in the northern north-ern portion of the county. We would like to know whether the Independent honestly and candidly believed when it penned this logical article that it meant vh:t it said? Did it not take into consider;! t ion t hat another county meant the payment of the salaries of another set r.f officers, of courthouse and jail facilities, and of the many other routine expenses that are attached at-tached to the maintenance of a county government? Or p -sibly we have wrongly interpreted the intent of the writer. At any rate we think the public would like to know how the economy part is deducted. So far as the proposition of dividing I'i;ih(:o:!;:!vkcii!nnvn,.,i : is lj ,t;' I-fcmaturc a ltd unwise. While every bad ph:ee on a county road lus ivA . possibly been - lixed to conform to Hie particular parties of the immediate residents, yet we belie, be-lie, e t':e cmnty funds, have been expended with rigid economy and vith a view to d-iiiig tlie greatest good to the largest number. Jt takes a long while to t;et around to e erybody and to every jdace, bed one thing we can s;!.v, and in saying so we believe we endorse the sentiments of every taxpayer tax-payer in the county, that our county officials have displayed no partiality in performing their duties, but that their sole purpose has been to treat every taxpayer with consideration, considera-tion, and to observe economy in all their administrations. As a result ur county compares more favorably than any othercounty in the territory. And now. just as the hardest part of the work has been accomplished, and the future gives promise of more room for improvement, for some one to stand up and ask the community to join hands m sliciug up the county, is to us an absurd proposition.. We have no hesitancy in stating that it will not meet with the popular approval ap-proval that its promoters expect, and j that even with those it is proposed to benefit, that it will be resented. |
