"I got out in the sun too much last year and I felt that during the football game," said Detmer. "I wont let it happen this time." According to quarterback coach Norm Chow, the Cougars have had some of their best practices in the past two weeks before they came to Hawaii. "We were very pleased with our practice sessions (in Provo) Tuesday and Wednesday," Chow said. However, running back Matt Bellini will probably not play. He did make the trip, but according to Dr. Robert Jackson, one of the Cougars' orthopedic specialists, Bellini was in extreme pain following a practice session Thursday. He had been cleared to practice Wednesday. Bellini ran at noon that day, but was in pain by 3 p.m. and was unable to do any other physical activity. BYU's trainers and the consulting physicians had hoped Bellini could rehabilitate his injured ankle, play with a specially made brace, and complete his BYU football career on the field. He will need surgery at some point to stabilize his right ankle if he wants to continue normal physical activity the rest of his life. - FOOTBALL National Spanish Fork B8. Around Honolulu this week Rainbow fans have been leery of BYU. They have expressed frustration over Hawaii's disappointing season. The 'Bows were picked to finish second to BYU in the WAC race but are tied for fourth place. The fans see the Cougars primed and ready to avenge at 4 loss last year.
