Myers was born and reared in the small town of Minersville in Beaver County. He graduated from Beaver High School and attended Southern Utah State College. He graduated with honors from Utah State University. He taught English and coached basketball for several years at Delta High School. His successful teams show the great concern that he has for the youth of the area. "They are, and always will be, our greatest natural resource," he said. He also said that he would like to find some way to encourage good parenthood. No longer a teacher, Myers is a part owner of a small business which operates in Delta and Fillmore.
