Show Utah County to Have 'Slightly lower' Property Taxes By DARRELL BERKHEI.MER levy from 5 to 10 mills this but the Utah County and Nearly all Utah County residents will pay slightly lower property taxes this year. Such is the case in days of generally rising taxes across the uniform school levies combined were lowered a total of 4.10 mills, offsetting most of the Cedar Fort increase. Mapleton is another area of the county where the mill levy from 16 30 to 18.30 was raised mills. But Mapleton residents will still pay lower taxes this year because of the county and state cuts. The only other slight increase recorded was in the Nebo School District. The district levy was raised fron 46.95 to 47.10 mills which have prompted nation, numerous tax year, state reform - movements and some tax revolt actions. There is one area in Utah County, however, where the total property taxes this year will be slightly higher by .9 mill. That area is the town of Cedar Fort. Cedar Fort increased its mill - tax of a difference of .15 of a mill. The reduction in the Utah County levy was from 11 to 9 5 a difference of 1.5. And mills the state uniform school tax was lowered from 7.2 to 4.6 mills 2 6 mills less. These two amount to the combined reduction of 4 10, noted above. But even with the doubling of the Cedar Fort levy to 10 mills, that town still has one, of the lowest property tax totals of any cities in tne county 72.55 mills. That total includes the county's levy, the state school levy, Alpine School District's property 47 45 mills and the Central mill is levied, raising the total to mills. Property taxes in these unincorporated areas include only the school district tax, county levy, state school property tax and Central Utah Water Conservancy District levy, because residents in these areas pay no municipal tax. Since there were no other real estate tax changes this year, the city of Lehi has retained its Utah Water Conservancy District's levy of 1 mill. The only areas with lower totals than Cedar Fort are Genola, 70 70.20 mills, 95 mills; Goshen; and the unincorporated areas of the county. Within Alpine School District, the unincorporated areas have a total levy of 62.55 mills. And the unincorporated portions of Nebo School District have a total property tax of 62.20 mills. The only exception in the Nebo District is within the Benjamin Cemetery District where one and .50 Grove's including a 26.50-milmunicipal tax, the Alpine District tax of 47 45 mills, a special Lehi Met olitan Water District tax of .50 mill, the county tax, plus state school and the CUWCD levies. But Lehi is tied with Pleasant Grove as far as the highest municipal tax is concerned 26.50 mills. The next highest is Salem, with 26 mills even; and the Provo municipal tax follows at 25.35 mills. But Lehi's lead in the overall tax rate total is only .34 of a mill above Provo's total 90.21 ls 63 20 dubious honor of being the e area in the counhighest tax-rat- ty The Lehi total is 90.55 mills, mill above Pleasant 90.05 mills. Among the school districts,. Provo's remains the highest at 49 76 mills, with Alpine second and Nebo third. A look at the graph printed here will provide other city and town comparisons for those readers who are interested. A check with the office of Utah County Treasurer Maurice C. Bird has brought a report that the tax payment notices should be mailed about the end of this month.
