Registration and Little leaf, a common disease of fruit trees in Utah county," is caused by deficiency of zinc and can be helped by spraying with zinc sulfate at this time of the year, according to Joel Barlow, Bar-low, assistant county agent. This must . be done .before the buds swell to avoid injury. Little leaf can be detected by reduction in growth of the terminals, term-inals, resulting in formation of "rosettes" of small, clustered leaves. The leaves are usually narrow, irregular In shape and mottled with yellow. Little leaf occurs commonly on cherry, apple, and peaches and less frequently fre-quently on apricot and plum. . The following treatments are suggested: Spray apples and pears with 25 pounds of zinc sulfate or zinc "oxide per 100 gallons of water. For cherries, increase this to 50 pounds per 100 gallons of water. This spray must be put on while the trees art torment tor-ment and before the buds swelL Zinc may also be applied by the capsule method. This must be . . done before the leaves appear or zinc glazier's tacks may be driven into diseased branches. This treatment can be made any - ) time in the spring.
