Show :T r oocietyc ews Fbooe 433 Dastijup-Dixon Reception In ' Payson I s IZa rgely Attended PAYSON A marriage of interest waa aolemnized Monday in the Salt Lake temple when Miss Jean Dastrup, only daughter of Air. and Mrs. E. Byron Pasteup of Payson formerly of Provo, became the bride of Eldon Arnold Dix on, navy, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Dixon of Provo. The bride's mother, the bridegrooms parents, his brother Howard Dixon and wife, accompanied the couple through the temple and witnessed the impressive ceremony performed by Pres. J. Will Knight. Wednesday evening in the First ward recreation ball, a large wedding reception was given by Mr. and Mrs. Dastrup v la honor ox tne couple. The bride wore a lovely wedding wedd-ing gown of white silk net and heavy white satin with a long train and a finger Up veil falling from a coronet of seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of gardenias and roses. ; Mrs. Lois Williams of Provo 1 was matron of honor, Miss Marilyn Mari-lyn Nichols was maid of honor and- bridesmaids were Miss Beth Howe and Miss Gloria Dixon. Little Sarah Gessford was the train bearer and Howard Dixon was best man for his brother. The parents of the couple were in the receiving line with the bridal party, the mothers wearing formal gowns and corsages of rose buds. The attendants corsages cor-sages were of sweet peas to harmonize har-monize with their pastel shaded frocks. In charge of the gift room was Mona Lee Tuttle. Vera Willett and Vera Barrett assisted by Car ol Devy, Doris Dixon and Marilyn Mari-lyn Creer. The serving was directed di-rected by Mrs. Eva Garner and s Mrs. Lucille Drollinger assisted by Mrs. Vera Cloward, Mrs. Mary Jeppson, Mrs. Tillie Haskell, Mrs. Klea Crump, Mrs. Sybil Amos and Mrs. Agnes Stahell, young girls who served were Patricia Gessford, Kathleen Devy and Carol Creer. The serving table was covered with a lace cloth and centered with a crystal bowl of roses and lighted with tall wnite candies. As the guests assembled, in atrumental music was played by the Hilgendorff string trio of Provo. Heber A. Curtis was master mast-er of ceremonies for the program that included two vocal solos by Mrs. Bern Ice Dastrup accompanied accompan-ied by Mrs. Zenith Johnson; a marimbaphone solo, by Inez ft D AST Mt- 2!? The young couple had a brief honeymoon at Wfldwood in Provo canyon and will leave Sat urday for Alameda, California, where the bridegroom is station ed. Both are former students at BHgham Young university and the bride is an accomplished musician. mu-sician. Marriage Held In California SPANISH FORK Mrs. Cora McKell of this city announces the marriage of her daughter. Laurel E. Mcitell, to coxswain Lloyd L. Harvey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jo seph Harvey, Newell. Iowa. The marriage took place at San Rafael, California, April ZB. Mrs Harvey is a member of the WAVES, stationed at San Fran cisco, California and her husband is a Seabee in the U. S. Navy and has been reassigned to overseas duty. Mrs. McKell went to California Cali-fornia to witness the marriage ceremony. W W Sewing Follows Dinner At Club Mrs. Griffith Nuttall of Lake View, entertained members of the Bonnie Thais club at her home Wednesday evening. Dinner was served, the dining table being centered with a bowl of red roses and orange blossoms. The time was spent with handwork, hand-work, and solos were sung by Mrs. Paul Ream. A birthday gift was presented to Mrs. Max Bills. In attendance were: Mrs. Max Bills, Mrs. Francis Hazel. Mrs. Frederick Hoffman, Mrs. Cletus Anderson, Mrs. Richard Groes- beck. Clayton, well known Provo couple, will celebrate their golden wedding day Sunday at their home. 381 West Second Sec-ond North street, when an open house will be held for relatives and friends who are invited to call from 2 to 6 o'clock. 'The Claytons were married mar-ried June 12 1898, in the Salt Lake temple; and have always made their home in the Provo Third ward. They are living in the same house in which they moved when first married. Davis, Oral De Lange and Frampton Collins, members of the old ward which includes in-cludes the new Geneva LDS ward, will hold a social Friday at 8:30 in the Timpanoeos amusement hall. A program to be carried out. including musical numbers, talks, refreshments, and dancing, has been prepared by the MIA presidencies presi-dencies of the two wards with Luzell Robbins as chairman. Harold Baker will be the mas ter of ceremonies and community singing will be conducted by E. B. Terry. C. Wilford Larsen, Geneva ward bishop, will offer the invocation. invo-cation. Bishop Philo Edwards will give the address of welcome and a tribute to the retiring bishopric will be presented by Mrs. A. H. "Old Acquaintance," at the Clivell club meeting held Monday evening eve-ning at the home of Mrs. Paul Westwood. Dainty refreshments followed. Choice peonies were used in dec orating. Swimming Party Enjoyed By Girls A swimming party at Saratoga was enjoyed by Beehive girls of the Second ward Tuesday eve ning. Thirty-three girls made up the party and a delicious picnic lunch was enjoyed. Miss Hannah Baker, Mrs. Bessie Mortensen and Mrs. Fay Bogh, leaders, chaperoned the group. church in the northwestern states from 1898 to 1900. Mrs. Clayton has been active in Relief society and has been a visiting teacher for mote than 49 years. Of their five children, four are living, as follows: Mrs. Stella Peterson of Missoula, Mis-soula, Montana; Mrs. LaReta Austin of Pocatello, Idaho; E. William Clayton and Mrs. Marie King of Provo. They have 11 grandchildren and fice great-grandchildren. Mr. Clayton was born March 12, 1873, in Preston, England, the son of William and Alice Affleck Clayton. He emigrated to this country in July, 1890, coming direct to Provo. For a number of years he worked in the old Provo Woolen Millls, part of the time as head of the weaving weav-ing department. After the mill closed down he went went into the postal service and became money order clerk. He was retired from the postoffice March 31, 1938. Mrs. May Clayton was born in Provo, April 7, 1878, the daughter of William W. and Sarah Bird Ferguson, and has lived in Provo all her life. Since Mr. Clayton's retirement, retire-ment, the couple have done considerable traveling and spent several winters in California. Cali-fornia. Maw, new officers of the Soroptimist dub of Provo and Utah county were installed at a formal banquet held Wednesday evening at Keeleys. Mrs. Cathryn Morphew Andrew, recently reelected to serve another year, was installed, along with the following follow-ing new officers: Mrs. Fern Morgan, first vice president; Mrs. Mae Huntington of Springville, second vice president; Mrs. Delia Huish, recording secretary; Mrs. Doris Peck, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Frances Wolf, treasurer; Mrs. Fern Larsen, auditor; Mrs. Maw was held over as par liamentarian, and Mrs. ina Brown as director. Mrs. Agnes Durrant and Miss Maida Bagiey are the new directors. In speaking of Soroptimism and its importance to its members mem-bers and community, Mrs. Maw, first president of the local club, praised the Provo and Utah coun ty group and reported that the rocky mountain region of Sorop-timists Sorop-timists is impressed with the growth of this club. Mrs. Andrew presided at the formal banquet, opened with the singing of the "Star Spangled Banner," a flag salute and the Collect, read by Mrs. Ina Brown. Lovely vocal solos were sung by Mrs. Betty Davis Hansen, accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. Zenith Johnson. Brief responses were made to the words of appreciation directed direct-ed by the president to her retiring retir-ing officers. Also, the newly in stalled omcers spoke, a corsage was presented to Mrs. Andrew. The tables were artistically beautiful with many containers of purple and yellow iris and lemon lilies, while the featured bouquet was of blue carnations and yellow iris, flanked by white tapers. About the hall were bowls of hawthorne and yellow iris, also, al-so, pink peonies and locust and iris and tiger lilies.
