Show Orem Voters Party Nominates oodruff Jensen For Mayor ORE M Woodruff Jensen, frominent Orem farmer complet-ng complet-ng his first four-year term on the Orem city council, was nominated nomi-nated for mayor Tuesday night at the primary convention of the Orem, Voters, party. Councilman Jensen was nominated nomi-nated as mayor for a four-year : term under the new state election law applying to cities of the second and third"class. Nominated for four-year coun-cilmen coun-cilmen were Gerald M. Buckley and Clyde E. Weeks, Jr. M. Dover Hunt and Charles W. Halford were nominated for posts of two-year councilmen. Incumbent City Recorder Or-land Or-land E. Pyne was nominated to succeed himself for a four-year term, and Russell Bellows was nominated for city treasurer, two-year two-year term. The platform approved by the Orem Voters party include the following planks: To create greater great-er opportunity for younger voters; promote greater efficiency in city government; a planned safety program for- school chil dren; to promote higher moral standards in the community; to provide for a realistic development develop-ment of future businesses; closer cooperation between city officials and citizens. Conducting the . proceedings during the evening was Grant Rowley, party chairman. The Orefn Citizens party has set its primary for "Oct. 8 at the Geneva school. Date for the People's party primary likely will be set at an organization meeting this week. Magna Toddler Drowns In Ditch MAGNA, Utah, Sept. 28 (U.R) Jack Nelson, 2, of Magna stumbled into an 'rrigation ditch and drowned last night while he '2 was riding a broom stick. The body of the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon A. Nelson was swept for one-eighth of a mile in the two-foot canal before it was re-i re-i covered. f Authorities said he apparently was swept Into the ditch when he placed the broomstick into ' the swift-flowing water. Officials Of-ficials are still investigating the case. . Police reports reveal that the pair, both of Springville, were picked up in Spanish Fork near midnight in the auto which was reported stolen from R. G. Webb, 145 W. 4th N., Springville. Ogden Slayer Hears Charge OGDEN, Utah, Sept. 28 (U.R) The first degre murder arraign ment today of Ray Dempsey Gardner here, was continued until Monday to give the- confessed slayer of three persons time to get a lawyer. The 27-year-old Columbus, O., man showed no emotion as he was read the murder charge in Judge J. Q. Nebeker's court this morning in connection with the rape slaying July 20 of a 17-year-old Ogden baby sitter, Shirley Gretzinger. Gardner also has admitted murders in Montana and North Dakota.
