Once a week she delivers meals to 15 individuals. “I wanted a service opportunity in the community that I could do with my kids,” Hale said. “Meals on Wheels has been great. I can take my kids with me to deliver meals andvisit with many wonderful people.” Hale is just one of many drivers who deliver more than 400 meals each day to Utah Countyresidents. This service opportunity has allowed Hale to teach herchildren the helping ot! For manyyears, the city has ben- efited from individuals who help with the flowerbeds on CenterStreet. “It is awesome to walk down Center Street andsee all of the gorgeous flowers,” said Sandy Harward, volunteer service coordinator for Provo Parks. “It is community volunteers whohelp to make thestreet beautiful.” Those interested in helping with this project who, should meetoneither dateat 7:30 a.m. at 351 W. CenterStreet. Volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves and drinking water. The Advocates, individually or as a couple, work with a child on a weekly basis for six months. Their role is to be a friend, a positive influence anda reliable and consistent presencein the child's life. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in fun and healthy activities with the child. New Advocatesare required by thestate to attend 40 hoursof volunteer training, submit fingerprints, receive a complete background check and complete a pre-assignmentper- sonalinterview.
