Skiing will be possible from Nov. 19 to June 17, 1984 (212 days) at the Little Cottonwood Canyon rescrt (weather permitting). The increased number of ski days is the result of the addition of an extended spring ski season, a his"first" in Snowbird's tory. The Gad I and Little Cloud chairlifts will remain in operation from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily during a three-wee- k period in May between Snowbird's regular and summer seasons. The extended spring season lift ticket will cost $9 and skiers will be allowed to ski practically all 1,900 acres of Snowar Need Not Be Boring By BOB HUDSON Herald Travel Editor 11 9 AWfen If bird's terrain. If you don't ski, are you home-boun- d during a winter vacation? You certainly needn't be. According to the Utah Travel Council, Utah has plenty of winter activities for residents and nonresidents alike. For example, now is a good time to visit Lake Powell or the various national parks. Summertime crowds are gone and the areas take on a special beauty in the winter. It's also a good time to take a walking tour of historical buildings in Salt Lake City or other communities around the state. Not too long from now, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints will once again decorate Temple Square with lights, making it a "must" place to visit. Ghost towns are fun places to visit, too. Grafton, near Zion CanGhost-tow- n yon, is buffs claim it is the most photogenic in the state. At least one movie-makagreed since one scene of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" was filmed there. If you have been watching KSL-TV- 's series on ancient Indian ruins, perhaps you would like to visit one. Trail of the Ancients, in San Juan County near Blanding, is one that is easily accessible. Once cold weather finally arrives, wintertime activities such as snowmobiling, ice fishing and sleigh rides will be possible. n 3) ' Here is a schedule of ski season dates, hours, ticket prices and lifts available: Nov. 19 to Regular Winter Ski Season May 6. 9:30 a.m. to 4 30 p.m. daily. Sleigh rides through Hardware Ranch, near Logan, are especially: popular. So are those at the Home-- ; stead in Midway. ; Ice fishing is a fun activity, too.; Willard Bay and Bear Lake are; among the favorite spots. Bear Lake becomes an especially busy place in January during the Cisco run. There are lots of places to ice skate around the state. Unfortunately, it's unlikely that Utah Lake State Park will be one of them. That rink is closed as a result of last spring's flooding. But Salt Lake City's Liberty Park and Park City have outdoor rinks that can, and do, accomodate large num-- I bers. I College campuses offer things to do, too. Of course there are always sporting events to attend. But why not visit a museum or two. Brigham Young University's Bean Museum has captivating exhibits. And there are other, less n museums on campus. The University of Utah has an interesting geological museum. The other campuses around the state have interesting sites, too.
