For the past several nights Director Roberts has had more than two fuU teams, of freshmen working like Trojans on the field In North park where the veterans cannot get wise to their simple but effective plays. Although the direct or is expecting to place his depend ence entirely in straight football he has a variety of simple plays that seem to be almost certain ground gainers. His back field composed of Mcintosh, Wilkinson, Dixon, and Bird. l working beautifully and with a snap that is likely to bewilder the varsity men. some of whom have had little experience in their positions. All of the frosh backs are men of long high school experience working behind a line of veterans of many a high school battle. The varsity team, on the other hand, is gradually strengthening as former students arrive and take their places in the line with the big blue team. Coach Twitchell is sufficiently worried over the prospects of a freshman victory to cause him to work his team until the men who have been in but a few days are on the verge of a collapse. During this week he has been working his back field in an attempt to get them going well to gether. Scrimmage has been the general order of the practice for several evenings past. The "Y line is in good shape that the men are new and may be easily confused when they get into a real game. Fenton Reeves, a husky freshman of last year, put In his appearance last night and demanded a suit His size and general agility will considerably strengthen the line In oase of accident or other trouble that may develop. Although the youngster has had little experience in football, he may be able to make some of the regular line men scramble pretty hard to stick. The rivalry between Director ABE W. LEW HIGH X X X 1 X W The Lehi football boys came to Provo last evening to get a workout with, the "Y" freshman team. They got It" Those freshmen simply wentt wild when they were placed on the. mark and told to go. Mcintosh, the frosh quarter, threw his men around the .end, through the line and over the top In a manner that swept tne northern boys off their feet A touchdown was scored within a few minutes by the greenlings, who continued to run the ball over the line at will before the northerners could get their balance. The freshman backfield proved to be a veteran organization, carry ing the ball with a faultless pre cision that spelled long gains at The Lehi lads, every attempt when they got the ball, found diffi culty in making any yardage against the fast freshman" line. They were forced to kick at the conclusion of practically every third down. After the freshmen had played the Lehites for fifteen minutes Coach Twitchell allowed his varsity team to scrimmage with the Pro-- . vonians. The green lads showed a much stronger defense than they did the other night against the freshmen. Even against the heavy B. Y. U. line the high school boys held well. The varsity players, however, had little difficulty in scoring when they really had a desire to do so.
