Coirutock, travel editor edi-tor for "Better Hornet and Gar dens" magazine recently pent week' in the Bee Hive state to team "what tourists want to see in Utah." . Coming here at the suggestion of the Utah department of publicity pub-licity and industrial development. Miss Comstock saw nearly every thing in the state a tourist might he interested in. Piloted, around Salt Lake City by members of the state publicity department, Miss comstock was particularly im pressed with Utah's "canyon re treats. Her impressions of Utah will appear next spring in "Bet ter Homes and Gardens." XXX From the "Boulder City Daily News" comes a story of the rescue of Mrs. Bert Loper of Green River, Utah, from possible-death in the gorge of the Green river in an Iso lated section of southeastern Utah, Suffering from a broken shoulder shoul-der and ribs after being crushed between a heavy boat and a large boulder while launching the boat, Mrs. Loper had been left under a mosquito netting on the river bank while her 78-year-old husband, hus-band, Bert Loper, veteran river- man,, attempted to hike overland through some of Utah's hottest deserts, for help. Two hours after her husband had left her on the river bank, Mrs. Loper was discovered in seri ous condition by Harry Aleson, noted riverman, and Ralph Badger of Salt Lake City, who were mak ing a river expedition. Aleson left the injured woman with Badger, and by following Loner's trail, returned re-turned with him six hours later. Aleson then repaired Leper's new 16 horsepower outboard motor, in stalled it on Badger's boat and took the injured woman 28 miles upstream to the mouth of the San Rafael river, where he was forced to swim asore -and hike to the Marsing ranch. In an hour he returned re-turned with an automobile. Sdven hours after the accident Mrs. Loper was under a physician's care at Green River, Utah. Had Aleson and Badger failed to come along the river when they did, it is doubtful that either Mrs. Loper or her husband would have been alive today. Despite the fact that a number of successful river expeditions have been made on the Green and Colorado rivers this summer, all voyagers should be prepared for any eventuality. XXX A record-breaking food har vest is seen for Utah according to the bureau of agriculture economics. eco-nomics. Grain crops will total over 17.000.000 bushels. The ship ments of green celery will top all previous records. XXX More than 500,000 persons have visited the Utah Centennial ex position at the Utah state fair grounds to date. Kidnap Bandit Sought In Idaho MOUNTAIN HOME. Ida., Aug. 25 (U.R) Elmore county authori ties today were convinced that the two-gun bandit who kidnapped three Rio Tinto, Nev., miners ana took them for a wild, 100-mile ride to Mountain Home is not in this area. Sheriff Arthur Stevens said a thorough search of the area near where the auto used in the kidnapping kid-napping was discovered revealed no trace of "Two-uun Fete," whom officers tentatively identi fied as Claude Wiltroup, 27 year-old year-old laborer from Purlock, Calif. However. Stevens said a sharp lookout is being maintained for the man. HERAUD; y."9;i CLASSIFIED. rOK RENT rURNISBED SLEEPING room. 54 South lit bit :; , - -y-i-, w.al ROOM far nUn.
