Carle was re-elected president; Mrs. Kirk Leander was re-elected vice president; Mrs. F. Williams was elected secretary, and Mrs. L. A. Bell was re-installed as treasurer. A beautiful hand-made quilt top, which was made during the past year by members of the organization, or-ganization, was presented to Mrs. Carle, in, appreciation of her services. serv-ices. Bus-terud. i V Committee Named i bor Junior From Mark Weed of Salt Lake City, junior prom chairman of Brigham Young: university, has announced the selection of seven students to form a committee for the annual ball. They are Birdie Boyer, Bert Miller and Reid Nilson of Provo; Chloe Priday of American Fork, Josephine Seaton of Price; Grant Neutenboom of Ogden, and Glenna Perkins of Salt Lake City. The committee was chosen recently re-cently by the officers of the junior class and Mr. Weed. Preparations for ticket sales, orchestra, and decorations will begin with a meeting Wednesday night The prom has been set for February 27. Provo Girl Married In Los Angeles Mr, and Mrs. H. C. Christensen, of Provo, are announcing the marriage mar-riage of their daughter, Miss Deon Christensen, and Carl Shipp,' son of John Shipp, also of Provo. C The young couple were married in Los ; Angeles at the L. D. S. chapel on New Year's eve. ' ?Mr. Shipp is well known in Provo, having attended school here. She is a graduate nurse and has been in California for the past six months. Mr. Shipp, formerly of. Provo, is engaged in aircraft production work at the Lockheed plant in Los Arigeles. Mr. and Mrs. Shipp will live in Los Angeles Announcement Of Marriage Made SPANISH FORK Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Gull of this city announce the marriage of their daughter, Lois to Vern' Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Taylor of Springville. The marriage took place at the home of the bride December 30. Bishop L. F. Smith performed the ceremony in the presence of the immediate relatives rela-tives of both families. A hot chile supper was served following the ceremony to twenty immediate relatives, of the couple. Mr. and Mrs. Lew Christmas of Lake Shore and Mrs., D. Foster Bowen of Spanish Fork arrived home Sunday night from California, Califor-nia, where they went to visit their sons. Corporal Reed Christmas and Sergeant William Bowman who are in active military duty at Es-condido, Es-condido, California. The visitors reported that the soldiers were delighted de-lighted to see some one from the old home town. Pioneer Honored On 84th Birthday SPRINGVILLE Hardy Aver- ett, Springville . pioneer celebrated his 84th birthday on Monday and in the evening he was surprised by approximately 50 relatives and friends to commemorate the occasion. oc-casion. He was born in Springville Jan uary 5, 1858, a son of Jedethan and Jane Farnsworth Averett, early pioneers. He has lived in Springville his entire life and has resided in the same home the past 82 years. He has followed the occupation of farming, stockraising and car penter work, retiring about eight years ago. He recalls 1883 as one of the most interesting years of his life, when he with a brother, John Av erett; were engaged to kill 250 deer in Pleasant Valley for mar keting:. . He has always been an ar dent hunter, beginning at the age of 10 years, when he was forced to secure the family's meat sp ply with his gun. Y :, At the age of 13 years, he be gan freighting supplies to colon ists in Utah some of the trips taking mm as far as Pioche, Nev. When he was 14, he hauled loes from nearby canyons for sawmills saw-mills in the vicinity. (He married Elizabeth Parry, October 4, 1884, in the Endow ment House. Salt Lake City. She died about four years ago. He now makes his home with a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Norris Averett. Av-erett.
