Women Fete Partners At Wierd Halloween Affair Gladys Dixon Honor Guest Bits of trickery on the part of the committee created something different in the way of weird atmosphere for the B. Y. U. Women's Hallowe'en party for their husbands, held in the Joseph Smith Memorial building Wednesday evening. Entering the south entrance of the building, the guests were greeted by many "ghosts," who guided them through "Ghost Hall" into the moonlit ballroom. A dramatic program pro-gram was presented on an improvised and appropriately lighted stage set in the eat alcove. Music and sound effects were broadcast from the control room- 1 Scenes from famous dramatic ' literature were presented in the darkened room, and included the following: "The Listener," by Walter Dele Mare, Mrs. Kathryn Pardoe; story of the "Fall of the House of Usher," by Poe, Dr. P. A. Christensen; ghoet scene from "Hamlet," enacted by Ralph Un-germann Un-germann and Bob Johnson; ghost scenes from "Tam O'Shanter," Dr. Alonzo Morley; the witches scene from "Macbeth." Mrs. Kathryn Kath-ryn Pardoe, Mrs. Odessa Cullimore Culli-more and Mrs. Elfie Boyle. Several fortune-telling booths were operated for the amusement of the guests, Miss May Billings, Mrs. May Hammond, Miss Edna Snow, and Mrs. George Hansen. Also, a number of square dances were featured. Refreshments, in keeping with the theme, were enjoyed in the clubroom, cider being served from cauldrons by "witches." Further carrying out the Hallowe'en Hal-lowe'en motif, a huge spider web and spider, a large moon, and cats, owls and witches peered out from darkened corners and stairways. stair-ways. The committee comprised Prof, and Mrs. J. Wyley Sessions, co-chairmen; co-chairmen; assisted by Dr. and Mrs. P. A. Christensen, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Broadbent, Mrs. Orea B. Tanner, Miss Verla Bir-rell Bir-rell and Ralph Ungermann. Off to Honolulu For Wedding PAYSON Miss Edythe Elizabeth Eliza-beth Ott, daughter of Mr. and! Mrs. Byron F. Ott, will sail from Los Angeles on October 31, on the S. S. Lurline for Honolulu, where she will be married on November 5 to William Warren Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Wood of Boise, Idaho. - j&isf - Qtt-, is a graduate of Bcripps" college at Claremont, California. Mr. Wood is on the engineering staff of the Pacific Naval Air Base Contractors, Inc., at -Honolulu. Mr. and Mrs. Ott accompanied their daughter to Los Angeles to remain until after she sailed. Women employees of Taylor Brothers honored Miss Gladys Dixon, bride-elect, at the home of Mrs. Myrtle Halladay Wednesday Wednes-day evening. The affair was in the form of a Hallowe'en carnival, and flags and balloons were worked into the colorful j decorations. Carnival games were played, and a delicious de-licious dinner was served carnival style. Fortunes were told during the delightful evening. In attendance were Mrs. Alta Faux, Mrs. Erma Robertson, Mrs. Viola Smith, Mrs. Arvilla Harding Mrs. Myrtle Halladay, Mrs. Helen Payne of Oakland, Calif., and the Misses Muriel Childs, Ina Haws, Vivian Crosby, lone Finch, Helma Kirk, Grace Daniels, and Maurine Dixon. Assisting with concessions, fortune-telling, etc., were Miss Irene Mitchell, Miss Adaline Adair, Mrs. Murial Tanner, Mrs. Mabel Tanner Tan-ner and Miss Georgia Maeser. A handsome gift was presented to Miss Dixon. Club Calendar Scandinavians Are Invited In place of the Scandinavian choir practice Friday night, all Scandinavians in Provo and vicinity vi-cinity are invited to attend the first social of the season at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Norman. Visitor Is Dinner Guest Mr. and Mrs. J. They are to wear costumes. Gleaners Hold Comraderie A comraderie was held by the Fourth ward Gleaners Tuesday evening in the Relief society hall. Green and yellow decorations proved attractive. May Hodson gave the history of the Gleaner organization, and prayer was offered by Elda Pope. The "Story of Ruth," was given by Mrs. Wayne B. Hales, and Mrs. R. Garn Clark sang, accompanied by Mrs. John Quist. Parts of the sheaf were given by Lucile Nelson, Phyllis Booth, Elaine Bement and Evelyn Haws, and Mrs. Eli Clayson was In charge of the sheaf -binding. Tasty refreshments were served. Mrs. Ella Johnson, M. I. A. president, and Mrs. Katie P. Mitchell of the stake board, poured, and during refreshments, Betty Clark played a piano selection, and violin duets were furnished by Maurine Van Cott and Mada Stewart, accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. George Cannon. Prayer was offered by Virginia Vance. The receiving line comprised the presidency, Mrs. Ella Johnson, Mrs. Marearet Bierelow and Miss Dorothy Janson. Also, Mrs. Katie P. Son Home On Furlough; Feted Reed R. Ekins, Jr., home on fur lough from Fort Lewis, Washing ton, was honored at a dinner giv en Tuesday evening by his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Reed R. Ekins, Sr. Hallowe'en decorations were used on the table, which was cen tered with a large cake bearing the inscription, "Good Luck." Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Amos Mecham, daughter Arlene ana son Jack, Mr. and Mrs. Emery Ekins and daughter Munai or Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Burls Hill, Mr. and Mrs. Frank James and daughter Geraldlne, Shirley, Maurine, Elmer, Colleen, Alton and Paul Ekins of Provo, Stewart of Salt Lake City, and Marvin E. Smith of Provo, which will take place Friday in the Salt Lake temple. The ceremony will be performed by Dr. John A. Widtsoe of the Council of Twelve. Miss Stewart is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. V. Stewart of Venice. A reception in honor of the young couple will be given Friday evening "at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Stewart in Bountiful, for members of the immediate families. The bride-elect has been ac-time ac-time in musical circles, being a former member of the Salt Lake tabernacle choir. While studying Symphony orchestra. Mr. Smith, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Hyrum Smith, is a graduate of Brigham Young university, where he was editor of the "Y" News, and business manager of the Banyan, yearbook. He was associated with Blue Key service fraternity, Delta Phi honorary missionary fraternity, Theta Alpha Phi dramatic fraternity, Omega Nu honorary missionary fraternity, fraterni-ty, and Lambda Delta Sigma social so-cial fraternity. The young couple will reside in Salt Lake City, where Mr. Smith is an editorial assistant on the staff of the Improvement Era. D. S. institute insti-tute in a dance which is to follow the B. Y. U.-U. S. A. C. football game. Hosts at the affair will be members of the "A" chapter of the fraternity. The social is the first of a series of reciprocal entertainments Which chapters will sponsor during dur-ing the school year. R. C. A good program will be rendered. All are invited. Re freshments will be served. Temple Rites Unite Couple The marriage of Miss Anne Bray, daughter of J. E. Bray of Provo,, to Theron V. Kuhnirjson of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Kuhnt of this city, was an event of Wed nesday in the Salt Lake temple. The ceremony was performed by Pres. David A. Broadbent, in the presence of the groom s parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Kuhni, Mrs. Lois Bartholomew of Provo, and Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Cluff of Salt Lake City. , Luncheon was enjoyed in the temple. After a short trip, the newlyweds will return to make their home in Prevo. , Timpanogos Dance Club To Start The Timpanogos Dance club will commence its new season of dances Saturday evening at the Municipal Golf clubhouse. A special invitation is extended to last year's members, also, to members of the Golf association and their friends, and the general' gen-eral' public.
