Miller Editor of the Character Builder man does not live by bread alone jong ago it was said that to human essential happiness is to make social first ;the ustments so that every man, woman and child can get necessities of life. Experience has taught us that if iple cannot earn an existence thru their own efforts it at be given them as a dole. Life is more than making a ng but as long as the struggle for an existence is as hard millions as it has been the past few years it is difficult t people to think of the higher things of life, n his little book World Qiaos Prof. Wm. There is an indance in the world for all if only the pagan relationships humanity were christianized so that people would try to p oneanother instead of victimizing; gouging and destroy-on- e another. Moral and spiritual ideals and practices essential to peace, love, unity, health, purity and happito the thoughts wheretly but when the whole life is given o shall we be fed and wherewith shall we be clothed and shall we be housed, the moral and spiritual phases of are bound to suffer and the unlovely qualities of life are eloped instead of the harmonious and admirable. ( I WHAT TECHNOCRACY Mayor LaGuardia, who has won some notable victories in New York, has, from first to last, taken his stand against machine politics and fought corruption in its lair. He saw clearly how that great city had been made a stench to the nation because it was held in the grip of the most corrupt machine politics has ever known. New York City is not alone. Machine politics are rampant in every city of any consequence, Salt Lake among them. They lay their unhallowed hands on the offices and the officials until corruption grows and grows, until good government is next to impossible, and the people are made to politics work through a strong central coni mittee which like a corporation, has no soul. It rings up the fees which its candidates are always forced to pay. It levies on salaries. It dictates every move of the officials it has elected or appointed until they are deprived of personal freedom in public matters. When necessary it resorts to the injunction. In every campaign it gets abundant means from the underworld which dares not refuse to pay. Political machines which exist solely for spoils should be made to keep their hands off city government. The sanctuaries of our municipality should be kept pure and rfwan, and the hands of conscienceless mid greedy machine members should never be permitted to reach into the offices which the people have created in order that honest servants might administer the public affairs in a creditable and helpful manner. With unlimited Blush funds teas of thousands of dollars, thejr-th- e machines are attempting to win the election. Why? For the spoils. Let the people rise up and suf-Mac- hine Here is the substance of what according to Howard Scott, Technocracy really means. In our North America, ridden by an outworn Price System now tottering to its fall, a new page of history is being written. Over a continent, engineer and shoveler, technician and merchant, teacher and field hand, men and woman alike are organising for colossal tasks; not some piddling political juggling of personality or racket. Here is being prepared a turning away from three thousand years of history. From scarcity, with its poverty its juggling in human lives, its agony of spirit to abundance, to plenty of the goods and services, of life to all, to real freedom. Ay the Two Factors In Economic Activity The monetization of wealth and the taxation of wealth are two factors in economic activity that can at all times produce sufficient purchasing power for the general public to produce and consume the needed production of wealth. Both of these are needed: neither one can operate successfully without the other. A continued monetization of wealth is needed to enable the people to consume the increase in wealth and to enable all industrial activity to recover its costs in trade. And a taxation of .wealth is necessary - to reduce large concentrations of value in the hands of a few whose advantageous position in political or business life has built up from the anxiety and toil of the great mass of a people.
