From reports given out by Red Cross workers and published in Magazine Digest, it is stated that hundreds of thousands of children and women and men are actually star-ving to death. The children are mere shadows and ready at any moment to fall in death for lack of food. Such are the conditions everywhere in the country districts of that and millions will die before next spring because of want in thatun happy country. But in the centers like Madrid the ruling class and capitalistic exploiters are reveling in luxury with an abundance of food, fancy clothing, wines and liquors, and the young widows and daughters of extinguished citizens for play, things. This is a barbaric condii ton and it exits, to a great-er or less extent, in every capitalistic country on earth. Where is God and where is true hristianity to thus let millions of the Creators children pine away from the awful pangs of slow srarvation? but also in ideal?, principles, character. "Not merely in the calm assertion of rights, but in the glad assumption of duties. "Not flaunting her strenght as a giant, but bending in help-fulness over a sick and wounded world like a good Samaritan "Not flaunting her strenght as a giant, but bending in help-fulness to bring in a reign of peace and a Golden Age "Not in splendid isolation, bu in courageous cooperation (for world peace) "Not in pride, arrogance, and disdain of other races and peoples, but in sympathy, love, and understanding. "Not in treading again the old, worn, bloody pathway which ends inevitably in chaos and disaster, but in blazing a new trail, along which, please God, other nations will follow, into the New Jerusalem where wars shall be no more. "Some day some nation must take that path unless we are to lapse once again into utter barberism and that honor I covet for my beloved America. "And so, in that spirit and with these hopes, I say with all my heart and soul, 'America.' " Bishop G. Ashton Oldham We hear a great deal about loyalty and patrotism, but the way that certain people speak and act it would seem that they don't quite understand the meaning of loyalty. First, to be loyal means to be "True and faithful to one's sovereign; devoted to the maintenance of law and order.' Second, to be patriotic means, to "Love one's country; and to be zealous 'n defending and supporting its interests." Those who'do not adhere to and govern their lives according to these principles are not truly patriotic. If you have in mind any good that you wish to do, do it today, tomorrow may be too late The other day we attend-ed a funeral. A speaker told of a visit he and his wife made to the man in the hard days of his sickness. The wife was a member of a ladie's quartet, and they promised to come again some evening and bring the singers to sing for him a numbr of his native country's songs He said he would welcome them and fix up and dress up for their visit. He kept wondering when they would come. They finally came and sang one of the songs, but it was for and at the funeral! And he was fixed up and dressed up for their visit! ((Among life's saddjst words are these Too late; If Jesus Christ had handed his program for world govern-ment and world peace to Churchill and Roosewelt on that historic occasion, and told them to give it to the public, these ultra conservatives would tear it to pieces. Their wisdom pe-rished. It died with the Harding-Hoov- er regime and cannot now be revived to do any good It is not so much intellect that is needed.it is the wisdom of the heart, out of which are the issues of life. According to Gladstone the conservative and upper classes have never been right on a single major is sue of reforms for human welfare. Croakers pounced upon the8pt program much like the law yeis of Jerusalem pounced upon evjry principle in the program of Jesus, and gloated over their destructive work just like the national and international lawyers of old gloated over their picking to pieces of the Sermon on the Mount and the Golden Rule. Editorial tearing to pieees of the eight points, in some instances, came from a source which has not in nine years had a breath of good will toward their own American government. All of them are busy garnishing the sepulchres of dead politi-cal prophets. But they, themselves, could no more make a working poliical plan to guarantee world peace than those ancient hy poerites could have brought forth the gospel We have laws that seek to prevent murder. We should have laws that seek to prevent treason before it brings trouble HOW FAR WILL WE LET TREASON GO? Don't doit men, It will destroy you. It will also destroy half of those who oppose you. It will destroy your country, and your eyes, if you sur-vive will look upon "the broken and dishonored fragments of a once glorious union." t We wish we might reach all the ruling powers and the wealthy people of the whole world with a voice like unto thun der and tell them how many millions of plain people there are on the lower levels of life who, if iven a little lift of the right kind, a bit of a life line and some encouragement would be come be able to pull through and become as good and useful as any of the more fortunate citizens. It is a social and economic crime for this or any other nation to deny them and keep them struggling, like unto a drowning man, in life-lon- poverty The billions and billions being spent for war should be spent for human welfare. It should be spent for higher life, nobler living; it should be used to create ab-undance, beauty and happiness. Such should be the aim. A certain magazine we can name it which circulates across the country, said in a late issue that Roosevelt will be out of th presidency within six months and that their man will take it over, intimating that the president would be either assasinated, impeached or forced out. A previous magazine published by "their man" actually advocated assasination by a man who volunteered to do it. Let every American feel proud of his oountry, and have an assurance in his heart that this land, is choice above all other lands, and that no other people under the sun, shall ever posses it. This great nation will endure as it has endured and will survive : provididing that the land will turn unto their God, and acknowledge him the giver of all good. By His power, nations have risen, and empires have fallen, and looking back at the glorious past of our national life, it is plain to see that God has blessed America. C. V. Hansen When the world's two strongest men stood face to face upon the high seas on the imperishable foundations of demo- - cratic faith and the best Christianity known, and flashed a light of hope to a world the only light so far to penetrate the abysmal gloom, certain ones were delving deep to find some dirt to cast upon the result Immediately when the result was known they 'descended, vulture like, on the eight point program, not to find anything good but for the purpose of destroying its influence Our Country First "Not merely in matters material, but in thiu of the spirit "Not merely in science, inventions, motors, and skyscrap rs Latimer Writes Book Neighbor David A. Latimer Sr., is out with a new book entitled, "Opening of the Seven Seals and the Half Hour of Sil-ence." The foot note on the front cover page says, "The end is not yet! The events o1 today are but the begini.ing of sorrow " He quotes hundreds of passages of scripture and puts them in proper and under-standable order, showing thai each Seal represents a thous-and years. He makes lucid reference to the Four Horst-mc-of the Apolalypse, the Time of Christ, the End of things as the are the Half Hour of silen-ce in the Heavens, the Milleni um, the Final Great Battle and the New Heaven and ihe New Earth. He puts the end of (he world so far off that none Of us will be there to see it. LITTLE MOMENTS IN BIG LIVES -- ui,,,,., B THtsE 6oet th' 'NSgSsv r Kessler I Paul W Litchfield, ocmmn n XIj MIQ.
