ATIVE And Peisonal Views On Production for All C. N. A A PICTURE ALL MEN SHOULD LOOK UPON In our minds eye we have framed a picture which we wish might be put upon a canvas and pronounced one of the masterpieces. It is somewhat as follows: There is a great, wide, long and high circular heap of all the known things and materials that have been made and manufactured for use in war, in other words, for killing and destroying. There are all the worlds giant battleships, all its destroyers and torpedoes. There is all the vast air craft of the nations. There are all the machine guns, the canons, the rifles, the swords and the side arms. There are all the shells and the bombs. There are all the different shades of poison gas and liquid fire. This enormous pile, the cost of which has bankrupted the nations, represents, according to mens ideas, the power and glory, the defense, the security, the strength of all the nations of the earth. In the center of this massive circular column we have left space for one single individual to stand, and in that space we jhave placed 'the figure of Jesus, standing barefooted on the ground, and possessing nothing whatever of this worlds goods. He smiles and extends his good right hand to the nations, especially the Christiaif nations, and speaks a few plain and sibiple words after assuring the people that armaments are a mockery and that only fools would put their trust in them. He says, BY THIS SHALL MEN KNOW THAT YE ARE MY DISCIPLES, THAT YE LOVE ONE ANOTHER. Here is the supreme test. There is more potential power in the last five words of this sentence than in all the armaments of the whole world. When navies and armies and airfileets and bombs and gasses have been destroyed dnd their "ftakers gone to forgotten dust, these words will live and will be shouted over the earth as the saving power of humanity. so-call- ed FIRST GUN IN THE CITY CAMPAIGN The furtherance and applications of Progressive political principles should mean more than the securing of spoils and patronage for ward heelers and partisan bondslaves. Most Democrats claim to be Progressives but this can mean little as long as those put forward for office are tied hand, foot and mind by autocratic central committees which owe their life to spoils. Real Progressives should step out and vote for the cause, the principles, not for chronic and greedy officers. There are men, and we are not referring to Mr. Maw, who have come out as Prgressives, and securing for themselves one good paying job after another, in each instance with a raise of salary, and who are now after the highest paying jobs. This is using the Progressive cause with to satfalse pretenses, as their ouly object is cattlevoters a into and own their vanity, luring greed isfy like stampede for themselves. When the old system say they are defending the Constitution they are immortal defending their own perverted conception of that document. Their conception is a distorted caricature of the original. It is the counterfeit of the genuine. If the spirit and principles of the Constitution were put into operation in the realm of economics, the old capitalism would vanish, never to appear again. Eighty three per cent of the new business concerns started in the United States fail dur ing the first year of their operation it has been reported by busineszand statistical bureaus. Most of these failures are due to existing competitive factors within an economic system of short purchasing power. Bui within a social income system where a monetization of value is ' employed to increase the total in purchas medium in proportion to the increase in wealth the total in business risk will be compensated by the total in social incomes to the people themselves thus enabling the puplic to produce and consume to production capacity within a social economy in which the absence of competition for an inadequate volume of purchase medium will further democracy and cooperation in industrial affairs.
