Hitherto this community and equality of right have been disregarded, the heirs being left to scramble and fight for what they could individually get and keep. Thanks to the growth of human intelligence, a world in revolt testifies today that this insane injustice is to be tolerated no longer. Unless humanity is destined to pass under some at present inconceivable form of despotism, there is but one is-sue possible. The world and everything that is in it will ere long be recognized as the common property of all and adm-inistered for the common benefit of all." Why is humanity failing? Why is the great, proud civil-ization of today falling about the heads of so many of its cre-ators? It is because t iey have overlooked one thing, and that one thing is the greatest thing of all. It is the tapping of the great secret reservoir that lies hidden within the soulof man. J .i I ..Editorials Well Worth Reading.. Betterreadand study these editorials. They touch some of the greatest truth and enlighten and inspire you. Try to do 3omething to he'p spread truTh Hero's Death Shames Them j It is good to know that one of the outstanding heroes of the war was the boyMcPherson of Idaho, who laid his all on the k altar of his country in a far-o- ff foreign field, and the highest medal of honor has been awarded to his memory and his fa-- ; mily. This incident should shame some of the editors and some of the senators and congressmen of that state. They J tried to knife him in the back while he was performing heroic ?,' acts. They tried to help the enemy he was fighting, and had they had the power they would have opened the gates of this ! land to the raping, murdering enemy who would take pleasure in attacking their wivesand daughters. While this herosleeps in a grave that will forever be hallowed by patriots, the. wouW t be betrayers of him and his country will go down to the vile dust from' whence they sprung, unwept, unhonored and dis-- - graced. While they did their utmost to help asatanicenemy, he, the soldier-her- o and patriot, stood and fell in a cause that's " as holy as the cause of God. S They Called Him Communist A poor white man, one ot tens of thousands in the South- - em States, lost his baby He said: :'The po' little young-u- n J just dried up like a rabbit skin 'cause we had no cow to give it tnilk Struggling to support a wife and seven children on a dollar and a quarter a day, and often getting swindled out of N half of thet, he couldut give it a deeent burial aud made a M P'ne box and carried it to the potter's field. He was arrested f atd charged with starving the child. When the judge asked, '."Guilty or not guilty?" The man straightened to his full ,eg'it, loaked the judgj level in the eye and said: "You cant get milk out of cedar bark. My wife Bessie can't stir flour out f acorns. When yo" got seven youn 'uns to feed you can't 8've 'em nothin" but sowbelly and corn mush on an uneer A'' tain dollar 'n a quarter a day." jj And some culled him a Communist some like llie ,ocal re t baiters who kill and eat a Communist every morning just lo work up an appetite for breakfast. It Has All Been Foretold There is nothing happening today, and there will be noth-ing happen in this war but what we have, in a general way, told of and warned of in these columns, not from our own wisdom but from the sure words of the prophets. But people are much like the doubting disciples were after the Master had risen. They were not sure that it should be that way. "What," said one, "have you not had the words of Moses and the prophes. ies of Isaiah and Ezekiel and Daniel before you all this time and then say ye knew not that He should come forth from the grave?" As with them of old time so with most of the people today. They neither read nor believe the prophets who have foretold everything about as well as the historian can tell it afterward, They have told when, where, how and why this war should take place, the nations involved, their lineup, the destruction of them all, the victors, where, when and how the end would be, the plagues of revolution, drouth famine, disease, and the complete disruption o the Babylonic system of finance. All the signs have been and are now being shown, but many will not see. All the prophetic words foretelling it are an op-en book, but, alas, the majority will neither read it nor under-stand it. But later, when the consumation is complete, those who now deny will take credit for all foreknowledge, while we who knew and warned will be pushed aside and forgotten. But on the horizon above this dark picture there is anoth-er picture a picture of hope and promise, of peace and secur-ity. The Golden Age is not behind, its ahead, just over the hill crest. Nobody Home And Nobody Hurt! f' wmmmt.jijr' .... This WAS a house! And that WAS a .plane sticking out of the shattered timbers. Spectacular picture, taken just after the plane rippo into the side of a cottage near Glenview, 111., shows graphically the aftet math of the crash. Four passengers were only jarred when the plane, en route to Mexico, hurtled down to earth after the motor suddenly failed. Why People Lack Interest Some wonder why the people do not take more interest in liberal and progressive movements. Let us tell you the truth. For so many years they have been deceived, misgu ded and betrayed iu various political ways that they have come to know that no matter which way they ote, or when they vote or where they vote, the result is, as a general rule, always the same. It is a safe bet that the interests win every time. In Ifj one way or another they so shuffle the cards that they alone jjj are the victors. They always contribute to both parties and therefoie controFboth parties. And whenever a progressive movement comes to the front they find a way to divide them, or to confuse them, in such a way that real benefits to the people amount to very little. If the people would stand to-gether they might accomplish w nders for themselves, but this it appears, they never will do. The Real People "And before I'll be a slave I'll be buried in my grave, Take my place with those Who loved and fought before" Neighbor Wm H. Halliday has been quite ill of late. Had we known it we should have visited him. When he goes be-fore St. Peter he will be told: "You have walked the pathway of life in honor and upright-ness. You have giv n more than you have recived, have been kind and generous, of the poor and for the poor. Enter into and enjoy the best I have" AUGUSTUS SCHERER only son of Mrs. Wilford F.Lund, of 247 So. 2nd West, has given his life as a Liberty Loan to the cause of theU.S. He volunteer-ed six months ago and went in-to training near San Diago, Cal-ifornia, where he died from an internal hemorage on Sunday, Sept. 6. The body arrived on Friday evening. A beautiful funeral service was held at the Deseret Mortuary Saturday at 3 p. m. He was buried with full military honors in the City Cemetary. The flag which draped the casket was present-ed to the mother. Bedewed by her tears and pressed to her bossom it was laid away, hold-ing forever in its silken folds the hallowed memory of the only son God had given her and whom she sacrifictd on the altar of her country. Neighbor Karl J, Edgliog of Ogden has just returned from a trip East where he visited some of the Mormon shrines among them the site where the temple of theNewJernsalemis to be. He beheld the corner stone which was laid by Joseph Smith more than a hunred years apo. And found a fountain of health and youth where they have a great hospital which is run according to real Christian principles. r. Francis W. Kirkham, Friend and Neighbor, has tak-en to writing and is do ng very well at it. His articles appear in some of the church magazines and are commanding attention. 01 course he sticks to this pap-er, which, he says, is doing much good. a Mr. De Swarte informs us that the people known as Jeho-vah's Witnesses will hold a theree clay convention. this Fri-day, Saturday and S .nday at I. THE WAY IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN The 193,000,000 people of Russia, the most cooperative people ;n the world, have become members of the great Coop-erative Society of London, a unit member It is likely this was done before the invasion. The Scottish Cooperative Wholesale Society has set aside a fund for helping Russia, The Danish Cooperative system, wiped out by the enemy, wau an example to all nations and had it been adopted by all there would not have been any need for war. James Roose-velt was second in command. Others to Admiral Nimitz' left are. Com-mander J. M. Haines, USN; Lieut. Col. E. F. Carlson, U. S. marine corps; and Lieut. Gen. D. C. Emmons, USA. w OUR WONDERFUL UTAH A noted visitor speaking at the University said: "You people in Utah do not seem to realize that you have the finest collection of canyons and erosion in the world. Your biggest mineral assets haven't been touched, they're fabulous." This is true. But we who live here do not take time to see it all, or to study about it as we should, or to enthuse about it to ' others who come here. In a material way the best work that the Creator has done was done right here in Utah and what is needed is some great poets and some poetic prose writers to connect up with God all the wonders we see within this state's borders. One Man Philosophy All the Materials), Forces and Knowledge are now present, notably in America, with which the enlightened can build a new world and enter a golden realm of abundance and joy, endlessly unfolding, and increasingly better. Man is that he may have joy, as he discovers Truths, Facts, and is obedient in conduct in living them. Man, meant to be free, and deeply desiring constantly greater liberty, freedom and power, he is everywhere variously in bondage to such, for instance, as fear, repressions, mental complexes, outmoded, no longer pertinant beliefs and tradi-tions and in a word, too many highly imperfect even erroneus ideas. Man has, however the power to cast out, or ignore or seep forth from imperfect or faulty ideas into constantly better higher and finer modes of expression and life possibilities. People generally, and everywhere, irrespective of race or creed deep down, and essentially, recognize that they must do what is intelligent and right. That the elect, you, do what is right '1 he real nature of man is not only good but great also that each individual, een unpromising appearing ones, and sometimes these far more than others has divine splendid, wondrous possibilities Our great America, Queen adove all other lands has a gr at, but as yet, unfulfilled Destiny. We are finding ourselv-es expressing parts of this great, unfolding Destiny. Willful Breaking of Law A great educator said: "Conseious violation of the law 00 saps the foundation of Character." How true. Those who violate even the lesser of all the hundreds of thousauds of laws ' may think they avoid penalties, but they deceive themselves. Every violatiou, great or small, leaves its impress on the soul -- ' and more or less weakens the character. To obey all the laws of today is next to an impossibility, and many may uncon- - seiously break some of them, but let none consciously or with pH impunity violate any of them. People should guard character jjj for that is the jewel of their souls. U. S. Signs Aid Pacts With Great Britain '. tv J i In a move designed to strengthen the bonds of unity between the U. S. and four of its Allies, a series of agreements was signed with Great Brit-ain, Australia, New Zealand and the Fighting French. Shown, left to right, are: Sir Owen Dixon, minister of Australia; British Ambassador Halifax, Secretary Cordcll Hull and Walter Nash, minister of New Zealand. C. V. H. Says No really refined manly man likes to hear a woman swear or to see a cigarette hanging from a woman's lies. No respect-able man delights in seeing a woman turn a bottle of liquor to ber mouth. Men are swindling the modern woman. That is, some men are. The man who will light the cigarette, between a woman's lips or hand her a bottle of'liquor to drink is swindling all womanhood and all motherhood. He is help-ing to destroy the finest in womanliness. We are not discus-sing the point of a woman s rinhts. She has the same rights, perhaps, as the man. But she must realize that she also has the rights of the rewards that inevitably come in lowering her ideals. When she loses self-respe- ct she loses the finest virtue that anyone can cultivate. She suffers a tragic loss when she loses the chivalry and courtesy which are the finest compli ments that good men can pay to good women By Eugene M. Middleton Murray, Utah, June, 1942. $11,000,000 FOR LIQUOR AND BEER Utah, Zion, the home of the Woid of Wisdom, lay over the counter in a single year for liquor Ire si m ol $5,820,126.87!
