Show COMMUNICATION EARL OUT FOR MAW "And the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid," spoke the Lord of Sabaoth. From the report of the 115th semi-annual conference of the n L.D.&-church, L.D.&-church, October 8, 1944 I quote from one of the speakers- "I think my food would choke me if I knew that while I could procure bread, my aged father or mother or pear kin were on public relief." I am inclined to the belief that our good Brother is chas-t chas-t irig the shadow in the hope of overtaking the substance, or he is suffering from an acute attack at-tack of mental meningitis, which has become chronic among a certain class of professed pro-fessed Christians as pertaining to the bid aged assistance. They called it "a disgraceful charity; the sting of charity, and told the people it was a disgrace to accept it. It is an even bet that they begrudge the old people of the money that a gracious government, govern-ment, national and state, appropriated ap-propriated to relieve the hunger hun-ger pangs of the poor.' It would have been more Christian-like had our saintly brother said it in this language: "I think my tnnA virnnlH rVinke me if I were to refuse to divide my last crust with any human being who had none, be he black, white, yellow, brown, friend or foe." If Herbert B. Maw, that humanitarian hu-manitarian friend of the poor, expects to be re-elected on the vote of these professed disciples disci-ples of the Kingdom who claim to believe in "honoring, obeying obey-ing and sustaining the law," then his chance of re-election is but a rope of sand. Let all honest-in-heart, saint and sinner, sin-ner, cast this tommyrot into , the discard and elect Maw. I Yours for justice and fair play, I am 81 years old today, born and bred a Mormon, and have served the church honestly honest-ly and faithfully now for 40 odd years in the Virgin ward. My record in the books will testify to this. j Sylvester Earl. ! (Note: The writer of the above shoulders all responsi- ! bility for it. The Editor, C. N. Lund, has no part in it whatsoever.) |
