Holdasvay Five PGHS Boys Selected for American Legion Boys State at Logan July 4 to July 1 1, 1959 Five Pleasant Grove High School Junior boys have been selected to represent their school and community at the annual American Legion Boys State, according ac-cording to Irwin Jensen, local Post 70 Boys State chairman. The 1959 youth conclave will be held at Utah State University campus July 4 through 11. Nominated by Principal A. J. Rogers and selected on the basis of scholarship, extra-curricular activity, personality and potential poten-tial leadership abilities were following: fol-lowing: David Holdaway, son of Mr,- and Mrs. Robert Holdaway; Tom Monson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Monson; Virgil D. Turner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil H Turner; Tur-ner; Ben West, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vance West and Earl M. Woolley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Woolley, While at Utah State University the boys will study democratic government on the city, county, and state level. They will loam the elective process by means of nominating conventions and actual ac-tual election of nominees to honorary hon-orary positions. State leaders from the Legisla tive, Executive and Judicial Departments De-partments of Utah will lecture to the boys on the privileges, duties, and responsibilities of American citizenship. An interesting program of athletics ath-letics and entertainment is also on the agenda, culminating; with the Governor's Reception on the evening of the concluding day. Local sponsors are Pleasant Grove City, Pleasant Grove Chamber of Commerce, Pleasant Grove Lions, Pleasant Grove Jay-cees, Jay-cees, Lindon Lions, American Legion Le-gion Post 70 and interested citizens. |
