Show Mayor Hakes American Fork City Appointments jluch Important Business Discussed At Both' Special and. Regular Sessions. Ses-sions. The main order of business at the regular session of the city council, tfhich convened Saturday evening, januarv 11, was tho naming of the jppointive city officers to serve for Oie term. The mayor asked the council coun-cil to be free in discussing the applicants ap-plicants for the different positions. Walter R. Durrant was appointed M city marshal for the ensuing term, and Albert Birk was named as night policeman. Roy Steele was appointed as superintendent sup-erintendent of waterworks, street supervisor and plumbing and building build-ing inspector. M. A. Wild as city sex-Ion, sex-Ion, Dr. G. S. Richards as city physician, physi-cian, Ray T. Elsmore as city attorney and' William B. Gardner as estray round-keeper were approved and ap-jointed. ap-jointed. The mayor . appointed Walter R. Durrant and Albert Birk as bail ommissioners, S. T. Shelley as purchasing pur-chasing agent and T. A. Barratt as :eputy purchasing agent. Two applications were received or the office of city justice. John Butte appeared before the ouncil and reported that the firemen ad met and had recommended that 3owe Greene be appointed Fire Chief, after some discussion, Mayor Greenwood Green-wood asked that all members of the ire department attend the next regular reg-ular council meeting, before any ap-ointment ap-ointment be made for this position. The mayor appointed Dena Grant ad J. L. Firmage as Library Board embers for a term! of six years. Hank Smith of Provo and Marion '. Robinson appeared and petitioned ' ir a license to operate a public billed bill-ed hall at 42 West Main Street. Mr. mth stated that he operated a pool in Provo and if granted a license ;re he would guarantee to run it 3 the same clean, way that he operas oper-as his Provo hall. The State Site-Finding Committee asked for information with respect lo the distance from the proposed building site to the mouth of the canyon. The water superintendent reported that the distance along the public highway was 1600 feet and 14030 feet at the shortest direct line to the canyon. Councilman Starrs reported having hav-ing investigated the situation in which the D. & R. G. railroad desired to install a signal light in the center of 1st West street near their tracks. He stated that inasmuch as the street was narrow and was used extensively ex-tensively by farmers with bulky loads of farm produce, such an installa tion would be impractical. He suggested sug-gested however that the Railroad Co. be allowed to install under the direction direc-tion of the Street Committee, a signal light on either side, of the said street. The installation as suggested was allowed. At a special session of the council on January 6, the mayor approved the bonds of the newly quality city councilors, the recorder and the treasurer, and the council approved the bonds of the mayor. The first named is to be chairman on each committee. A communication was received from Utah county in which was enclosed en-closed a warrant for $420. This amount was American Fork City's portion of the fund set aside by the county for the fighting of fires immediately im-mediately surrounding our city. Councilman S. T. Shelley reported that the services of J. B. Parker has been secured to audit the records of the city for the past year and that work would be commenced about the last of .
