Show Vetas Approve loud Election Pleasant Grove's voters went to the polls Tuesday (a few of them) and voted in the bond issue for the proposed water and sewer improvement. The voters barely turned out, as about 15 per cent of the registered reg-istered voters made it to the polls. 375 ballots were used, with three being "spoiled" and of the 372 remaining ballots a vote for the issuance of bonds was cast by 318 with 54 voting against. This was the water improvement bond. On the sewer sew-er bond for $20,000 a slightly lower "for" vote was given, 300, with 70 against and 2 not noting on the bottom half of the ballot, to give the 372 voting vot-ing ballots cast. The percentage of votes for and against were about the same in the two voting districts. dis-tricts. In 2, 5 and 9, out of a total of 1,027 registered voters 110 came out and in 3, 4, 7 and 8, 265 voters came out with a total number registered of 1,512. Harold Bullock, City Recorder Re-corder said he made it just under 15 per cent of the voters Following is a rundown ofthe Districts, the registered voters and the number who turned out. Of course, no count could be made of how each district voted. District 2, 345, 50; District 5, 232, 46; District 9, 450, 14. District 3, 326, 46; District 4, 397, 62; District 7, 360, 49 and District 429, 108. It would seem that districts with plenty of water won't come out. District 9 inthe lower end of the city, with 14 voters out of 450 were certainly not well represented. To give our city council full credit, a good effort was made to get the voters informed of the need and whys and wherefores where-fores of these bonds and of the projects to be completed. Local Lo-cal people evidently don't care much about giving their approval ap-proval or disapproval to the spending of their money. |
