Early fertilization with USS Fertilizers will give your crops the quick start they need this spring. That warning came today from Jim Shill, Southern divi-sion superintendent for Utah Power and Light Co., who said that the combination of March winds and children with kites can be dangerous unless prop-er precautions are taken. Mr. Shill urged parents to be sure their youngsters observ-ed these safety rules before they send their kites skyward: Fly kites in plenty of open space, and never fly kites near electric wires and poles! Never use tinsel string, wire or any twine with metal in it! Never fly a kite with metal in the frame or tail! Never fly kites in rainy wea-ther! Never run across streets or highways while flying kites! Never fly kites over televi-sion or radio aerials! Never fly a kite with wet string. Water is one of the best conductors of electricity. Use only dry cotton string and dry cloth in kite tails! Should a kite become entang-led in electric power lines, leave it there! Do not touch the string or in any other man-ner attempt to get it down. Report kites caught in wires and poles to your neares power company office. Roughouts Hold Monthly Meeting Last Wednesday The Roughout Riding Club held their monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 12 at the Pleasant Grove City Hall, with Ed Kresser, president, conduct-ing. It was decided to purchase calves again this year, and the committee will be Boyd Ack-erma- n, Robert Kirkham and Wayne Allen. Capt. Bob Adamson announ-ced there would be a ride on Saturday, March 22. The "shirt committee" had samples of material to show for new shirts, but no decision was reached. The Roughouts are sponsor-ing a Western Dance on Satur-day, March 29 at the Lehi Armory. Don Petty and his or-chestra will furnish music and the dance will start at 9 p.m. A portable TV will be given away and a queen-siz- e camp quilt. Tickets can be obtained from members. Forest Ranger Steve Rush-to- n was a guest speaker. He asked for support and encour-aged the use of trails and rid-ing facilities of our local trails. Twenty-seve- n members were in attendance. JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL NEWS Friday, March 14, John Mc-Clell-spoke to Junior High students about some of the troubles and adventures the men encountered in climbing Mt. Everest. He talked for ut an hour, and was a very interesting speaker. On Wednesday, March 19, the faculty played the all-sta- rs in a basketball game. Results were not available but the stu-dents were hoping for the all-sta- rs to win. |
