"Many of Utah's 19th century settlers built log cabins, but only a few of these are still standing," said Barbara Murphy, preservation coordinator for the Utah State Historical Society. "Whether they were built quickly, with rough-hewn logs or with carefully hewn logs and fine dovetail joints, these cabins evoke a sense of the pioneers' self-reliance and craftsmanship." Since pioneering days, logs have found their way into many kinds of structures: struc-tures: homes, outbuildings, recreational cabins, restaurants, restau-rants, rustic hotels, national park buildings, and even an airport hangar near Bryce Canyon. Any older log structure is an eligible subject for the Log Cabin Photo Contest. Contest Rules 1. Subjects must be older log buildings in Utah (generally, (gen-erally, 50 years or older). 2.
