Summer camping reservations available By Brian Brinkerhoff Outdoors Correspondent Summer is just around the corner, and it is now time to start making your reservations with the U.S. Forest Service for your favorite campsites. The Forest Service recommends making reservations as early as possible, to provide greater campground selection for you and to keep reservation lines open for other recreationists. Campers now have a larger selection of federal campgrounds camp-grounds to choose from this season, sea-son, thanks to more facilities available through the National Recreation Reservation Service (NRRS). The NRRS is a centralized reservation service that allows campers to reserve federal campsites managed by the USDA Forest Service and the US Army Corps of Engineers. Beginning this month, reservations reserva-tions will be accepted for more than 49,500 campsites in more than 1,700 federal campgrounds, camp-grounds, stretching from Alaska's to Florida. Through the NRRS campers can reserve a federal campsite by calling toll-free 1-800-280- CAMP or 1-877-444-6777, any day of the week, between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. (EST). Visa, AMEX, Discover, and MasterCard are accepted. With the NRRS, reservations for individual campsites can be made up to 240 days in advance. Groups can book up to 360 days in advance. The opportunity to reserve campsites in advance allows campers to make just one call to plan their summer camping vacation. In addition to campsites, NRRS users can reserve cabins, cab-ins, lookout towers, group shelters shel-ters and other federal facilities.
