Show Citizen, Press, Review Wed., March 9, 1994 - Page 14 Suppliers Conference slated Kiwanis CuJb to sponsor immunization clinic Over 300 large corporations and government agencies have been invited in-vited to set up booths at the 1994 Governor's Supplier Development Conference on May 19. Last year, the first such conference confer-ence matched 480 Utah suppliers with 220 government and corporate corpo-rate purchasing agents, resulting in millions of dollars in new business busi-ness for Utah companies. For more information, call 1-538-8790. Taxes: some are better than others "Why does a tax increase cost you several hundred dollars and a substantial tax cut save you thirty cents?" That's a quote attributed at-tributed to Peggy Bracken. We all know that taxes are a way of life designed to provide funds to various government agencies to provide services to us. Some of those taxes provide police cars, fire trucks, roads, business services, radio communications commu-nications regulation, mail, military mili-tary protection and food inspection inspec-tion services to mention a few. Then there are the obligatory wasted tax dollars that go to nuisance duplicitous agencies, federal boondoggles, congressional congres-sional junkets, federal studies on the mating habits of worms and $5000 military aircraft toilet toi-let seats. If you own a business or have a home or other assets, have you ever considered the taxes you pay? Estate and financial planning plan-ning can provide great insights into how your money is spent and what you personally receive for it. Common questions asked by planning professionals will send you scurrying for data to help solve problems you may not know you have. Minor adjustments in investments invest-ments could lower those on the borderline of the next tax bracket. The amount of life insurance you carry is also counted as an estate asset. If your assets exceed ex-ceed $600,000 you most definitely defi-nitely need to explore a marital, family trust (provided you are married). Other types of trusts that attorneys can help you with are designed to help you keep your assets instead of "willing them to your Uncle Sam. Government agencies can easily eas-ily separate you from your money. (There is an old joke here about Minding your Money REST By TOM FO. Estate Planner Copyright O 1994 a fool and his money being parted!) Most people, including business owners, don't realize that without proper estate and financial planning, that they are acting as nothing more than property prop-erty custodians for the Federal and State Government. Imagine paying 28 percent federal income tax, 7 percent state income tax, 1.45 percent health tax, 7.5 percent social security se-curity tax, 6.25 percent state sales tax, property taxes and the list goes on. When you die it is possible to pay up to 55 percent in inheritance inherit-ance taxes. Even with your deductionsyou pay a hefty price on your gross income annually. Estate and financial fi-nancial planners can assist you on a personal basis to retain that which you worked so hard to obtain. There are plenty of IRS rules, regulations, private letter rulings rul-ings and other means already in place that are designed to help you keep more of your personal wealth. If you have never done any formal estate or financial planning, look into it. Or you can simply go on the way you are, acting as an inexhaustible inex-haustible supply of money to the taxman. And when you die, he will be your biggest heir. "All their shots while their ku' is the theme of the Pleasant Drove Kiwanis Club "Young Children-Priority Children-Priority One program. CNS Home Health Plus and the State of Utah Department of Health will hold an immunization cjirnc Thursday, March 17. The "Slug the Bug mobile immunization unit will be at the American Fork Albertsona parking lot from 3 to 7 p.m. 1 Home Health Plus nurses' will administer the immunizations needed and Pleasant Grove Kiwanis Kiwa-nis members will assist with the paper work. There are now nine contagious diseases for which effective childhood child-hood vaccines exist. However, three in 10 infants and toddlers are going without adequate childhood immunizations, immu-nizations, leaving them at risk for life-threatening or disabling ill- ?., 'hi' nesses. ;.. This tragic toll of unnecessary outbreaks of preventablechiTdh bod diseases must be reversed. Children Chil-dren can be vaccinated against measles, mumps, rubella, polio, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus.haemophilis influenza influ-enza type b, and hepatitis B through a series of shots beginning as early as birth.
