Here is the Provo area we have had somewhat of a labor surplus for a 'considerable length of time. ,Some youngworkerswill find .employment with friends and relatives, rel-atives, others will be able to get jobs through their local employment employ-ment office, and some undoubtedly undoubted-ly will experience real difficulty in finding work in the area without with-out additional training.. At the present time the"VOi-cational the"VOi-cational school is opening a summer sum-mer program in various lines of training. I was interested and somewhat surprised to learn that the registration for these courses has been heavier from any area you might name than from Provo proper. In the Employment Service Ser-vice we see many situations where employers are seeking people peo-ple with skills. We experience a strange paradox where there are many young people looking for work. There are also a number of jobs available but the available workers aren't qualified to fill the jobs. It would seem to me that it might be time Well spent for many of our young high school graduates to investigate the possibility of a course at vocational vo-cational school in one of the trades as a door opener toward a career opportunity. No one, of course, can be guaranteed a job .because he has completed any particular course but we see a strong trend which indicates that vrhore skill training will be called for if people land the job oppor-unity oppor-unity they desire. For the high school graduate in the Provo area a Jid student between the junior and senior years there is an excellent ex-cellent opportunity . to attend Central Utah Vocational School this summer.. Those who are interested in-terested should take immediate steps to learn the details by contacting con-tacting the vocational school before be-fore June 12. The Employment Office would also be glad to assist them with information. A little time spent in training now may be worth thousands of dollars in the years to come and maymay ultimately be of more value than a temtxrarv lob this year. Jennings M.
