' o MORALITY AND RELIGION OUR MAINSTAY i . . f How Modern Wo- Constitutional Araenflinem men Lose Pounds of FatSwiftly-Safely Gain Physical Vigor Youthfulnesa With Clear Skin and Vivacious Eyei That Sparkle With Glorious Health MCLATING TO JM' U- CORfOK'"""" Far more worthy of notice by the people of the United States than his dooluratlonon prohibition or' his reference to economy was the note of reverence sounded by President Hoover' in his speech of acceptance. Our great first President, George Washington, made the famous statement state-ment aa to the need of religion and morality If the Republic was to endure, fcy these small groups, made up of In the midst of- our present depression de-pression and other troubles, the President placed emphasis on the need of "spiritual as well as material mate-rial reform." Perhaps the politicians politi-cians of both parties and the artful makers Of platforms did not pay much attention to It, but the people at large, it is to be hoped, have grasped its-meaning.- Let's quote it. It was not given much prominence In any editorial we have seen in the dally press. The Chief Executive of this nation said: "The problems of the next few years are not only economic. They are also moral and spiritual. The present check to our material success suc-cess must deeply stir our national conscience upon the purposes of life Itself. It must cause us to revalue and reshap our drift from materialism mater-ialism to a higher note of individual and national Ideals. - "Underlying every purpose is the spiritual application of moral ideals which are the fundamental basis of happiness In s people, This) la a land of homes, churches, school houses, dedicated to the sober and enduring satisfactions of family life and the rearing of children in an atmosphere of Ideals and religious religi-ous faith. Only with these high standards can we hold society together, to-gether, and only from them can government survive or business prosper. They are the sole insurance insur-ance to the safety of our children and the continuity of the nation." -We have been passing, through hard and depressing times, and to many there comes the temptation of despair and loss of Faith. The times more than ever require that we keep before us the motto. "In God we trust." which was placed even on the coinage of this nation by the founders of this Republic. Lin our country there are millions of -no faith mndco'nequentIy"can have no Idea of morality. Fortunately for this nation mostly most-ly all of our Chief Executlbes havs been in a considerable degree men with a great faith in God. In uttering utter-ing "the words he did in reference to "the sole Insurance of the safety of the nation" the President struck a note that must win the approval of men of all parties, who themselves them-selves have faith in God and who upheld the Washington Ideal that religion and morality must be our great source of strength for the preservation of the Institutions handed down to us.
