Jewkes, Pleasant Grove, has had in illustrated story printed on the inside cover of the March issue of "the Friend", LDS Church magazine for children. The story, "Ben and Sabrina", is the story of two dinasaurs who fall in love. Mrs. Jewkes said that about one and one-half years ago when Thomas was just nine years old, he drew a picture of a dinosaur in a lake. It won second place in a school art contest. His mother suggested that he write a story to go with it and illustrate it. So, he wrote the story and then drew the pictures. Carol said that she had to keep reminding him to paint the final copy very carefully and stay in the lines as he was a little gung-ho and anxious to finish it. I After they sent the story to "The Friend", jthey were notified that Jthe magazine was J planning an issue about dinosaurs and would like to use it. It was originally scheduled for publication last tFebruary. - Thomas watched for the magazine excitedly each month since then to see if the story was in, and then, lo and behold, there it was right on the inside cover of the THOMAS .JEWKES March 1982 issue. His original drawings had a variety of colors but the published version only used two colors. Thomas is a fourth grade student at Valley View School where he is in Mr. Krahenbuhl's class. His hobbies are singing, (he has sung several solos), wrestling and playing. He is a Weblos Scout. Last summer Thomas broke both of his feet when he jumped through a racquetball window at the Orem Recreation Center after one of his friends dared him to do it. He learned to pop wheelies in the wheel chair while he was confined to it. After he was placed in walking casts he won a race at the Jewkes family reunion. |
