Open House Tonight Will Honor Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Chipman "Close companionship and common interests are necessary to a successful marriage," said Delbert and Ora Chipman who observed their 60th wedding anniversary anniver-sary on January 16, 1978. In honor of the occasion, an open house reception will be hosted by their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. D. Ray Chipman, on Thursday, Thur-sday, February 9, at the American Fork Tabernacle Cultural Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Chipman were married in the Salt Lake Temple and have since resided in American Fork. Mrs. Chipman, the former Ora Holman, is a native of Pleasant Grove, and Mr. Chipman, a lifelong resident of American Fork. Their lives have been filled with activities ac-tivities involving family, church and community. They are the parents of a son, D. Ray, and they have three grandchildren, Kerry, Cindy and Todd. The Chip-mans Chip-mans also raised nephews, Art and Charles Little, and Art's son, David Eugene, and a niece, Ora Mae Little Ferguson. Mr. Chipman fulfilled a mission for the LDS church to Australia, following which he served his country in the U.S. Army. On his return, he became active in stake leadership positions in his church. These included 13 years as councilor to President Jesse M. Walker and Edward W. Burgess. Mr. Chipman is currently serving as a high priest in the American Fork North Stake. Both Mr. and Mrs. Chipman have been involved over the years in doing temple work. In civic affairs, Mr. Chip-man Chip-man served a term as city councilman. For ten years, he was chairman of the American Fork Hospital Board of Trustees. He was president of the Utah Livestock Production Credit Association and was chosen by Secretary of Agriculture Ezra Taft Benson to serve a term on the Farm Credit Board of Berkeley. He was also elected president of the Uintah Advisory Board of the Unitah National Forest and served some 20 years on the board of the Utah Woolgrowers. He is still actively ac-tively engaged in his occupation oc-cupation as a sheepman. Mrs. Chipman directed the first Relief Society Singing Mothers organization locally and also served as a ward and stake Relief Society Chorister as well as in the stake and ward Sunday School. She assisted in writing and directing direc-ting an LDS Christmas Pageant and has taught Sunday Sun-day School for 12 years (and proudly watched some 39 young people as they received mission calls while members of her class.) Mrs. Chipman has also served as counselor to the MIA Stake President and also on the Relief Society Board. Some years ago, she served as chairman of the local chapter chap-ter of the Red Cross. A school teacher by profession, she organized the first kindergarten kindergar-ten in the Alpine School District. She was a member of the original committee chosen by former American Fork Mayor Neil Savage for the Utah Pageant of the Arts and served in that capacity until recently. She attended BYU where she was active in music and is currently a member of the BYU Alumni Board. She worked with the State and National Lamb Education program and with the American Sheep Producers council. She was the first woman to appear before the agricultural committee com-mittee of the White House and she has served as president of both the state and national Woolgrowers Auxiliary. Mrs. Chipman was president of the State Woolgrowers Auxiliary when the Make It Youself with Wool contest was originated in the Salt Lake Chapter of the association and she introduced the program to all areas of Utah and then in the nation. She worked for many years with the youth in the 4 H program. Her special interests are art and music. The Chipmans are grateful for dear relatives and friends who have contributed so much to their happiness, for those who have given them the opportunities to serve in these many capacities. Mr. and Mrs. Chipman will look forward to greeting family and friends between the hours of 6:30 and 9 p.m. They request no gifts. Young Delbert Chipman Young Ora Holman |
