Grove High School Debate Team returns from tour By Kalyn Secretan The Pleasant Grove High School Debate Team recently recent-ly returned from Boston where they participated in the Harvard Debate Meet. There were 28 people including the chaperones who traveled to the east coast with, the debate coach Audrey Barlow. The debate team didn't place at Harvard, but got first at region as a school and took several firsts in the different events at region. Staying at the Boston Marriott Residence Inn, the team got to sightsee while not competing. Kendall Clement, who is in the debate presidency, said it was different debating on the east coast. They seemed to have a different style. The students enjoyed riding rid-ing the subway. They found it very cold. People wore scarves around their faces, and at one point it was minus 14. "You could go under and pop up at the markets, or go under and pop up in the middle of a skyscraper," Kendall said. The group went to the Cheers Restaurant that the TV sitcom was modeled after. They saw the Old South Church and the Freedom Free-dom Trail that ended near the Battle of Bunker Hill. Looking up and down the freezing streets reminded Kendall of 101 Dalmatians. The hotel was constantly running out of hot chocolate packets, with two schools from Utah staying at the hotel, because they were drinking the hot chocolate instead of the traditional coffee. In the mornings, it seemed like they were requesting the packets about every five minutes. i A council meets at Central Elemetary j Kalyn Secr jan tral School vas spot- as the host for the PTA Council Meet- "A een Green is the al, there are 48 on ; the school i icluding :hers at Ceni ral. ection entries from hool studer ts were lelming wii h more than any other Photo W j by WQlk) there 3jef frorfl Afferent tone and the :ommended ;he PTA. an Make a Positive nee," is the iheme of 4 rain into 8;iool and the PTA is held -ring the '.eachers iter The ru'er baskets, write-ups sundred1 certificates. jld, ol-lluui "as a new ha' jrogram and parents Next year tb school will be a full tim Title One school with 5 percent of the school low icome.
