Mattress & Box - J199 By MARCELLA WALKER Speakers from Lindon and Pleasant Grove invited Chamber of Commerce members to participate in their annual city celebrations. celebra-tions. Lisa Young who, along with her Youth City Council, will again be in charge of the Strawberry Days Parade this year, urged the businesses to "find their fit" with this popular pop-ular celebration event. She outlined the majority of the Strawberry Days events from June 18 to 23 and pointed out how the businesses busi-nesses can take part in a variety of ways. Young noted that the businesses have a "captive audience" for about two hours on the morning of the parade. She suggested ways in which some of the other businesses will get their name before the public. One company will provide all the scoopers who will follow each horse entry in the parade. The scoopers will wear shirts, etc. advertising the name of their sponsor. She added that Huck Finn Day on the Friday of the celebration will be another time when the businesses could set up a booth that would attract children to participate and they could put their name on the prizes given out. Young also pointed out that it costs a lot of money to put on a parade. She told the Chamber of Commerce members that marching bands have to be paid to participate in the parade. A business could sponsor a band and then the busi-ness's busi-ness's name would be placed on a banner carried ahead of that band. Strawberry Days Chairman Frank Mills said that he had worked at a Pleasant Grove business for 19 years and was well aware of the needs of businesses busi-nesses when it comes to advertising. He said that since he has been chairman of the celebration he has tried to get the businesses involved. He has listed in the newspaper all of the businesses who participate to give them some publicity for their involvement. He noted that the Strawberry Days Committee appreciates appreci-ates the cooperation of the businesses. Mills noted that some companies make a contribution contribu-tion of $500 to the city float. The company's name goes on the float and the float is in 12 to 13 parades each summer. He said they can even make their donation payments on the installment install-ment plan if they wish. Lisa Armstrong handed out information about Lindon Days which will be held Aug. 3 to 10. She told the chamber members that this will be the best Lindon Days they have ever had. She listed the many events that are planned for the week and said they will have a hot air balloon event and businesses can sponsor a balloon and someone in their business can get a ride in a balloon. This year they want to have concessions for the horse show and that would be a good place a business could participate. Armstrong added that they are looking for a "Night Out" event and will try to get the people to visit businesses or restaurants. These owners could offer coupons or special sales to attract customers. Last year they had some of those inflated rides and activities for children and they will have more this year.
