Brett and JaLee Savage of Lindon, has recently returned from serving in the Pennsylvania Harrisburg LDS Mission. He will speak in a sacrament sacra-ment service Sunday, April 21 at 1 p.m. in the Lindon 13th Ward, 1050 E. 100 North. Grant Fowles 80th birthday Grant L. Fowles will be 80 years old on April 20. His wife of 56 years, Virginia, and their six children chil-dren invite all friends and family to an open house Sunday, April 21, from 3 to 6 p.m. at his home, 535 N. 100 West, Pleasant Grove. Grant was born April 20, 1922, in Fairview, to Charles and Ruby Peterson Fowles. He was raised in Fairview, Colton, several logging camps, and then Pleasant Grove, where he attended junior high school and high school. He proudly served his country in World War II for three years. He was in the Battles of Normandy and Utah Beach and many others. He spent time in Florida, France, Germany and various outskirts. out-skirts. Grant married his pen pal, Virginia Haslam from Monroe, on Jan. 25, 1946 in Pleasant Grove. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple June 4, 1964. Their children are: Ruby (Garth) Fielding, Charles (Sharla Harris) Fowles, Eugene (Maria Marcon) Fowles, Stephen (Ellen Young) Fowles, Carol Lyn (David) Gifford and Odell (Evelyn Buttler) Fowles. They have 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Grant was a boxer while in high school and the service serv-ice and was recruited to be a professional boxer but declined this opportunity. He was scoutmaster for over 12 years, guiding and teaching boys character and helping them achieve self-esteem. self-esteem. He thoroughly enjoyed coaching Little League, Pony League, Colt League and American Legion baseball base-ball teams. He played baseball base-ball for the city of Fairview and Pleasant Grove. He tops and falls trees and has a working work-ing sawmill in his back yard. He jokes that he works harder now than before he retired. He is an avid hunter and taught Hunter Safety classes class-es for years. Some of his favorite times have been in the mountains hunting or fishing and enjoying nature and God's creations. He hunted mountain lions and trapped animals when he was in his 20's. He has shot some trophy elk and deer, plus the meat helped provide pro-vide for his young family. He worked at Geneva Steel, then was Street Superintendent for Pleasant Grove City. He can run a backhoe or grader and has dug many graves at the local cemetery. He plowed the snow and resurfaced resur-faced or oiled and tarred Pleasant Grove roads for many years. Grant is generous, patriotic, patri-otic, honorable, friendly, fun and hard-working.
