Show Funeral Held For Mrs. Elizabeth Hall Impressive funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Sept. 27, for Mrs. Elizabeth M. Hall, 79, who died Saturday morning at her home here. The service, directed by Bishop E .M. Williams was held in the 2nd ward chapel at 2 p. m. The opening number, "Nearer My God To Thee" was sung by the 2nd Ward Relief Society Ladies Lad-ies -chorus, directed by Mrs. Wesley Wes-ley Jense, accompanied by Mrs. J. Howard Nelson. Invocation was offered by Former Bishop Reed O. Walker. First speaker was Roger Hor-rocks, Hor-rocks, former bishop of the Hay-den Hay-den Ward, who had known the hall family years ago, and who told of the deceased's great, faith in the gospel, her great spirit in pioneer- ing and unfaltering devotion to her family. A short, but touching biographical sketch of the life and work of Mrs. Hall was given by her grandson, Iowa Hall, who, with his two brothers, had been reared by their grandparents. Burton H. Adams, a close neighbor, neigh-bor, told of his friendship and dealings with the Hall family and pronounced them, "Salt of the Earth." Musical numbers interpersing the speakers were: a second number num-ber by the ladies chorus, "O, My Father; and a duet "Let The Lower Low-er Lights Be Burning, by Mrs. S. W. Hilton and Elwood Allen, accompanied ac-companied by Mrs. Nelson. After closing remarks of sympathy and appreciation by Bishop Williams, a .vocal trio, Mrs. J. E. Hardman, Mrs. Lee Beers and Mrs. Glade Bullock sang the closing number, "I need Thee Every Hour." They were accompanied by Mrs. J. Howard How-ard Nelson, who also played prelude pre-lude and postlude music. Benediction was pronounced by Reed Peterson of the Bishopric. Prayer in the home had been offered by Paul Christofferson, also al-so of the Bishopric. Interment was made in the Pleasant Grove City cemetery, where Mark M. Hall offered the dedicatory prayer. Pall bearers were 4 sons, Grant, Arthur, Wallace and Albion Hall, and two grandsons. Iowa and Jay Hall. Floral offerings were cared for and arranged by the Pleasant Grove Second Ward Relief Society. Mrs. Hall was born in Cedar Fort, Utah County, Dec. 29, 1871, a daughter of Nelson and Sarah Sanders Merkley, Sr. When she was a young girl she moved to Vernal where she received her education. ed-ucation. She was married to Henry I C. Hall, Dec. 24, 1893, at Vernal. The marriage was later solmeniz-ed solmeniz-ed in the Salt Lake Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Latter-Day Saints. She moved with her husband to Wellington, Utah in 1931 and to Pleasant Grove in 1937 where she has lived since. Survivors include four sons and three daughters, Henry G.Hall.and Albion Nelson Hall, both of Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove; James Arthur Hall, Midvale; Wallace Edgar Hall. Compton, Calif., Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Eliza-beth Waddell. Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Helen Ainge, Provo; Mis. Sarah M. Bentley, Pleasant Grove; 22 grandchildren, 11 greatgrandchildren great-grandchildren and one brother. Henry Merkley, Jensen, Utah. |
