Show Flagpole Saves Man From Death in 3-Story Fall SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Henry Lefeave was watching a parade of veterans in Springfield from the third-story window of his hotel. Suddenly he toppled out and lived to tell about it. As he fell toward the crowd below, be-low, he grabbed the flagpole jutting jut-ting from the third-floor window. The pole was too frail to hold his weight. It bent perilously and he caught hold of a sign bracket on the front of the building. He hung there several seconds before be-fore losing his grip. He fell about 10 feet, but managed man-aged to grab a chain supporting the lower end of the sign. By this time, his plight was noticed no-ticed by other parade spectators. Several broke through the Une of march, ran up the stairs of the hotel, and hauled Lefeave in a second-floor window as he was about to lose his grip again. Lefeave suffered minor back and head injuries. His acrobatics broke up the parade. |
