Show I Funeral Conducted Thursday For James A. Nelson Funeral rites were conducted Thursday at 2 o'clock for James A. Nelson 72, Pleasant Grove nat- ive who died Tuesday at Heber of a heart attack while riding with his son-in-law, Roland Carlile and daughter Karen. The impressive service held in the Second ward LDS chapel and directed by Bishop Reed O. Walker Walk-er included preliminary music by A. R. Overlade and the opening selection by the Allen Brothers quartet, Kirby Allen, Leo Allen, J. Taylor Allen and Elwood Allen, accompanied by Mrs. J. Taylor Allen, who sang "Softly and Tenderly, Ten-derly, Jesus Is Calling." The opening prayer was given by William C. Smith. A violin solo was given by Mrs. Alfred Swenson accompanied by A. R. Overlade, who played "One Fleeting Hour'-' and a sketch of Mr. Nelson's life was given by Mrs. Leone Told, a niece. First speaker was A. P. Warnick who was followed by a vocal solo ."Face to Face" by Rulon Nichols. The next speaker was a nephew of Mr. Nelson's, EIRoy Nelson of Salt Lake City. He was folloowed by Curtis Larson of Ogden. The closing number was given by the Allen Brothers and the closing prayer was given by Lawrence Law-rence M. Atwood. The grave in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery was dedicated by Pres- ident Merrill N. Warnick. Pallbearers Pall-bearers were Curtis Larson of Ogden, Og-den, Leonard Adams of Salt Lake City, Lewis Larson of Salt Lake City, Omar Larson of Spring Canyon Can-yon and Neldon Lim and Frank Newman. Mr. Nelson was born July 27, 1875 in Pleasant Grove, to Christian Chris-tian and Christina Christopherson Nelson. He received his education in the schools of this community & working with his parents learned all the hardships of piooneer life. Active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he has worked in the Sunday schools, and when a young man was called to serve a mission in the Southern States. At the time of his death he was a member of the quorum of Seventy in the Timpanogos stake. He had a great interest in civic affairs and was at one time City marshall of Pleasant Grove. He was much in demand as a caller for old time square dancing and also contributed freely of his talent in old time songs and music for entertainment at Old Folks and other social functions. On December 14, 1898 he married mar-ried Clara Warnick in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died March 16, 1925. Survivors include one son, Howard How-ard Nelson of Pleasant Grove, three daughters, Mrs. Florence Carter, of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Lorraine Lefler, Port Chicago, Cal. and Mrs. Leah Carlile, Heber, and nine grandchildren. |
