Show Young Mother Dies Following Long Illness Johnell Rankin Walker, 43, wife of Charles B. Walker passed away at the family residence Monday morning morn-ing at 1 o'clock. Death came as a sweet release from suffering over a period of over six years of a heart ailment during which time she was confined to her bed a great deal of the time. Mrs. Walkefs passing will be mourned not only by her immediate family and relatives but by a wide circle of friends, who loved her for her courage and faith and fine intellect. Although many of her days were marked with intense suffering suf-fering she never complained, and fileld the hours free from pain with reading and study and a keen interest in-terest in events brought to her knowledge by those who were about her. She was born June 12, 1899 in Franklin, Idaho, a daughter of John A. and Nellie Shriver Rankin. She attended the schools in Franklin, completing the ninth grade there, at which time she came to Pleasant Grove to live with her sister, Mrs. Lorena Westover, who has since passed away, and where she entered and graduated from the Pleasant Grove high school. She attended the University of Utah where she graduated from the normal training school. She then taught in the Alpine school, and in the Pleasant Grove and American Fork schools. She had a deep love for art and literature and spent many enjoyable hours in writing. On September 8, 1920, Johnell was married in the Salt Lake temple to Charles B. Walker of Pleasant Grove. They spent a part of the first year of their married life in Idaho, then moved to American Fork where they since have resided. She took an active part in church organizations, having served as president pres-ident of the Third ward Y. W. M. I. A., and taught in the genealogy department de-partment of the ward. She was a member of the Senior Ladies Literary Liter-ary Club and a charter member di the Junior Literary League until ill-health forced her to withdraw from active participation. Surviving are her husband and one son, John R., her mother, Mrs. Nellie Rankin, of this city; and two sisters, Mrs. Viola Binns, American Fork and Mrs. Ora Risser of Bell Flower, Calif. Funeral services were being held Thursday afternoon in the Third ward chapel. |
