On February 17, 1938, Chief and Mrs. Pratt were honored guests at a testimonial banquet given by the members of the American Fork Fire Department and Auxiliary. Every member of the fire department and auxiliary were present. The Mayor and entire City Council and their wives, four officials of the Utah State Firemen's Association and several Chiefs from surrounding towns were in attendance to pay honor to the retiring Chief and his gracious lady. Chief Pratt was presented a ring with the Chief's emblem engraved thereon, by the local department and a letter of commendation from the City Council was read. One significant feature at this dinner was the large number of former students of Chief Pratt, who taught school for many years in American Fork. Space does not permit the enumeration enu-meration of all the good works of Chief Pratt to the firemen of the State, but a few of his achievements in brief: Elected Second Vice-President of our Association in 1924 and advanced to the Presidency in 1927. He has served as Chaplain shice 1931 As a member of the State Legislature in 1937, he was intru-mentalin intru-mentalin getting the Firemen s Pension Bill passed and worked ardently ar-dently on all legislation benefiting his friends-the firemen of Utah. Chief Pratt is still a fireman and always will be, but you auto drivers take heed-the Chief is City Judge and Justice of the Peace in his precinct, pre-cinct, so put a light foot on the gas pedal in and around American Fork. It might be embarrassing to tne speeder and Judge alike to meet under un-der such circumstances. |
