Show Cadmus Club Met October 22 with Mrs. Jess Walker Members of Cadmus Club were welcomed at the attractive attrac-tive new home of Mrs. Jess Walker Wednesday evening, Oct. 22. Dr. Eugene J. Faux, director of the Utah State Hospital Hos-pital juvenile division youth center, was guest speaker. Dr. Faux stated that the present pres-ent time is the most fantastic epoch any nation has had to face. The unprecedented exploitation exploi-tation of our youth by the unscrupulous un-scrupulous "drug pusher" dominated dom-inated by the criminal element and the increasing numbers of younger children becoming involved in-volved in the use of various harmful drugs, has now become the concern of every family. The use of drugs has become more important to many adolescents adol-escents than home, family or religion. The various communication and entertainment media have tended to make the use of drugs glamorous. The urgent need for special agencies for the treatment treat-ment and rehabilitation of the young addicts has been the result. re-sult. Utah ranks last nationally, per capita, in expenditure for mental health. Some of the brightest, finest and best educated young people in our nation look critically at the issues and problems of the present time. They have become be-come vocal in their protests & demands. Many of them do not use drugs. He said we must develop sources of leadership within our community, state and nation na-tion to find ways of assisting and rehabilitating the young victims of the drug traffic. The elimination of the source of supply is urgent. Delicious refreshments were served by co-hostesses Drucilla Smith and Joyce Story. Mrs. Don Walker was a special guest for the evening. |
