Forty Shetlands were sold on the trip and more are wanted, the Bradfords report. Bradfords Return Jan. 16 from Selling Shetlands in Hawaii Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Bradford returned on January 16 from the Hawaiian Islands where they spent a delightful month combining combin-ing business and pleasure. The Bradfords took with them 40 Shetland ponies by steamship. Another pony had previously been sent over by jet airliner. Some of the ponies had been ordered before the trip was made and all were sold before the visitors vis-itors returned. "It was a tremendous pony sale promotion project," said Mr. Bradford. He explained how the climate and leisure time activities activit-ies of the Islanders was ideal for the year around enjoyment of Shetlands. During their stay at Honolulu and the Island of Oahu, 35,000 to 50,000 pony rides were enjoyed by the children. They rode bareback, bare-back, in saddles and in the six wagons and carts made available. Many times there were from 300 to 500 children lined up awaiting their turn and rides had to be limited to two to throe min utes to accomodate them all, Mr. Bradford said. Parades as well as the rides were held each day for ten days before the new owners took delivery de-livery of the ponies. "We were met at the dock by the press, radio and television and even the ponies each received rece-ived the traditional lei," Mrs. Bradford stated. Mr. Bradford stated that when he ai-rived home a telegram from the Islands had already arrived, asking when he could bring over another shipment. In the press and on radio and television, I never failed to refer to Pleasant Grove as the "Pony Capital of Utah" Mr. Bradford' said. Other pony .breeders who jDined the Bradfords in the activity acti-vity were, Mr. and Airs. J. L. Hadsley; Mr. and Mrs. Perry' Carlisle, Perry, Oklahoma; Mr. and Mrs. Gene Lourey, Nebraska City, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Jordan, Heber, Utah, and Mr. and Mrs. A. J. 'Neidehaus's, Clinton, Utah. |
