Twenty families of Springville are making preparations to move to Idaho this spring. The tVallsburg Creamery company was incorporated last week, with a capital of Hum. The incorporators number forty-tw- o residents of Wasatch county. A bag supposed to have contained roral thousand dollars, was found by a workman while repairing the house of William Langton at Salt Lake City. Neither the money nor the workman can lie located The money is supposed to be the hoarded wealth of Henry Smith, who died in the house several years ago. James T. Monk, who tested the mining recorder law in the courts lsat year, has been convicted of perjury in connection with the trial. The penalty is from one to ten years. The jury recommended him to the mercy of the court. A Spaniard was in Salt Lake City one day lost week on his way to San Francisco, and the report gained circulation that he is an agent of the Spanish government, going west to inspect the Iacifie coast defenses and other things. Tracy and Lent, two of the convicts who escaped from the penitentiary last spring by holding up the guard, will bis returned to Utah if Colorado officers cannot convict them of complicity in the murder of Hoy at Brown's park. If returned they will he tried for holding up the guard and relieving him of his clothes and for stealing a horse which they forcibly took from a passing man with which to escape. The ladies of Springville, instructed by Miss Pyer of Salt Lake City, are in a fair way to develop an important industry. Ninety pounds of cocoons were produced from an ounce of silk worm eggs last week. Under the state law every pound of cocoons is entitled to a bounty of 25 cents per pound. The people of Utah, Washington, Weber and Cache counties are engaged it silk culture to a sufficient extent to entitle them to the service of a state instructor E. L. Lovesy, president, and John B. Fagg, secretary of the Utah State Beekeepers association, have issued a noconvention tice of the of the association, to be held in Salt Lake City, April 5. Among the subjects to be discussed are the representation of the industry at the Omaha exposition; the transportation and marketing of the beekeepers products, and the best method d law. It is of enforcing the desired, as far as possible, to obtain samples of honey from every county in the state, and it is expected that all parts of the state will be repreeented by delegetes in the convention. semi-annu- al 8. Washington, March 15 A weeks negotiations closed today by the triumphant purchase by the navy department in London, of two fine cruisers built and building at Klswick, fur the Brazilian government Possibly the officials took more pleasure in closing up the business in this manner because of the knowledge that Spanish agents had been striving to secure these very ahipe and that to IS pain it is said, they would be of much greater value in case of trouble than to the United States. The next question ia how to get the ships home, and that has not yet been settled, according to the secretary of the navy. The United States flag will be hoisted over the new ships within a week, probably, and just as soon as the crew can be put aboard the Amazonas alie will start for the United States. The other vessel will follow at the earliest possible moment. The terms of sale are secret. Orders have been sent to Commodore llowcll.cominanding the European station, to send a force of men from the San Francisco to take possession of and hoist the United States Rug on the Brazilian ship that is ready to go into commission at Newcastle. This will prevent any difficulty in case hostilities should break out, as the ship would be under the flag but lying in a friendly harbor. llenjauiln fluff Returned. San Francisco, March 15. Benjamin Clulf, Jr., president of the Brigham Young aralemy at Provo, Utah, lias returned from a visit to the Hawaiian Islands, where he went at the solicitation of United States Senator Frank J. Cannon, to determine the status of the annexation sentiment among the Hawaiian Islands He speaks the Kanaka language fluently, and haa made a thorough canvass among the natives of the islands of Oahu. Maui and Ilile, He said: As a result of my investigation I would say that probably one-haof lf the intelligent natives of the islands are pronounced advocates of annexation. Of the remaining half, I would aay that the great majority are primarily in favor of the restoration of the monarchy, and, secondly, they wonld much prefer annexation to the United States to a continuation of the present government.
