On Saturday night the serenity that was hovering about the military camp was suddenly disturbed by a pistol shot, and after several soldiers had loped in the offender they found that it was Kauffman n. The shot was fired from a point near where Private GunJer was assaulted recently. Kauffman had a pass in his pocket for Butte, Montana, when searched. Kauffman, after firing the shot, threw away his revolver and escaped to some brush, where he was captured by the soldiers and ijaken before the officer of the day, who decided that he should be turned over to the civil authorities. As soon ns Deputy Marshal Maxwell saw Kauffman he recognized him as a man wanted for another offense. He was placed in the county j.iil, and will be given a hearing today. Tribune. TWO ARRESTS MADE. Between ."and G oclock this morning what are considered important arrests in connection with the shooting of Corporal Kunder on Thursday night were effected by Deputy Sheriff Lambert. The men arrested were William ONeil, who resides on .Jefferson avenue, and D. R. street. It is said that both closely answer the description given by Kunder of his assailants; but, of course, their guilt or innocence of tho charge is only a conjecture at present.
