Show THE C. Valley Music Hall A Christmas spectacular is putting it mildly when Valley Music Hall presents Donald OConnor and the Trinidad Tripoli Steel Band together on the same bill to provide a full evening of outstanding entertainment. Last year a group of 27 young men made an impression on Valley Music Hall audiences that is hard to rival. The Trinidad Steel Band was appearing with Liberace, but these young men with their unique music won the acclaim of all of Utah and were held over to an unpresidented packed house on a Monday night. These musicians play anything from classical music to calypso and they do it on oil drums! Why oil drums? It seems that the drums ha(j floated to shore in Trinidad during World War n and the resourceful kids in the streets had found that by cutting the drums to different sizes and pounding on them with sticks or drumsticks they could make music. Those who have heard the band say they sound like an organ and even an orchestra. A sound that though difficult to place invades the body providing pure musical enjoyment. Their repertoire includes such numbers as The Poet and the Peasant, The Anvil Chorus, March of the Gladiators, Handels Halelujah Chorus, Alley Cat and some great calypso. Included in this foot tapping evening is . the smash hit The Donald OConnor Show which comes directly from its engagement at the famed Coconut Grove in Los Angeles. Appearing with the talented award winning Mr. OConnor will be the renowned dancing foursome the Step Brothers. Joining Donald is his popular companion in comedy, Sidney Miller. It was withSidney Miller that Mr. OConnor first introduced the great Songwriters Sketch," which has become a classic in night clubs as well as on television. Performing from the age of less than a year old Mr. OConnor has left his mark on the motion picture, television and now night club roster of greats. Tickets are now on sale at all Valley Music Hall box offices for this great Christmas spectular which will play Dec. at the Valley Music Hall. Rite Rosalind Dear Rosalind: This letter is in the form of a complaint. It seems recently there have been stop signs put up on almost every corner in town. It takes practically ten stops before some people can get into town. Do you think this many stop signs are really necessary? Are they more of a hazard than a precaution? Will people travel faster on a thru street to compensate for being slowed down on the stops? Is it just a set up for the city to collect more revenue by giving out 'more tickets for running stop signs? Is it dangerous due to the fact that people are not expecting a stop sign or are not aware of the new placement of them and may run them, causing a higher accident risk than before? A Citizen Dear Citizen: I have run the maze of stop signs so I know what you are talking about. Although it may be a frustrating and slow process to get to town there are other things to consider. Our city government needs the support and backing of its citizens. As long as this issue doesn't involve something that is morally wrong we ought to be able to suffer through. This will give us, as citizens, good practice in honoring, obeying and sustaining the law. If we make ourselves aware of the signs and obey them it may save an accident. One life saved is worth all the stops we may make in a lifetime. Im not saying we dont have a right to question this issue. Maybe we could ask the counsel or police force to take another look at the stop sign layout. If they feel they are really necessary and for the good of the community then lets support them.
