Show Sampling program shows only 25 of soils deficient in phosphorus Up to 35 tons of Sugar Beets A sampling program has been in progress for several years to determine the phosphorus and potash status of Utah soils. A total of 617 locations representing all the majro irrigated soils of the state have been sampled during this period. The study was restricted to fields growing alfalfa. Soils were taken at depth, with plant samples being collected from the same area. The d total portion of the alfalfa plant was used in the sample. All sites were sampled just prior to the first cutting. The condition of the crop was noted when the sample was collected. Where the soil had been classified soil series was recorded. Soil samples were analyzed for bicarbonate soluable phosphorus and ammonium acetate soluble potash. The plant material was analyzed for total phosphorus and potas- sites sampled showed adequUp to 35 tons of sugar beets ate phosphorus in the soil and per acre thats what many plant material. Early fertilization promotes early, rapid growth of grass, cover crops and other vegetation. It gets all crops off to a fast start, and prevents the delays in application unpredictable weather can cause later in the spring. USS Anhydrous Ammonia is excellent for fertilization. USS Anhydrous Ammonia contains 82 nitrogen, is stored as a liquid, released as a gas and applied by direct injection into the soil. The ammonium ion fixes itself to clay particles in the soil almost immediately. When ammonium combines with clay or organic matter it is leach resistant. However, plants readily take up the ammonium ion from the clay or organic matter and use it. Later in the season, it is converted to nitrate nitrogen an excellent nitrogen form for plant growth. pre-pla- TERRIFIC SAVINGS In BAG, BULK & CUSTOM SPREAD to increase crop yield, moisture, INCREASE profits FERTILIZE STRETCH Thus, USS Anhydrous Ammonia provides nilrccn both for early initial growth as well as during the growing season.
