Our Stake observed the 18th anniversary of its founding (April 2, 1939) in quarterly conference held Saturday and Sunday. Pres. Carl A. Patten conducted the meetings and Pres. Joseph Fielding Smith presided. Talks in the Saturday 8 p.m. meeting were given by Kenneth Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Chell-soMrs. Mavine Hudson, and Leland Sanderson. Dainty refreshments were served following the meeting under the direction of the Stake Relief Society. Special music for the Sunday session was furnished by the El- -' berta Branch Choir under the direction of Vera Patten with Judy Penrod at the piano and Teddy McKay at the organ. Congregational singing for the various sessions was under the direction of Melba Jensen with Teddy McKay at the organ and Donna Davis at the piano. President Patten, in his opening address, urged- us to strive for the highest standards of which we are capable. Pres. Joseph Fielding Smith also stressed higher standards in dress and admonished mothers not to encourage immodesty in dress in their daughters. Patriarch Eldred G. Smith explained the nature of the Patriarchal blessing. Testimonies were borne j by Naomi Jermain, Justin Lamb, and Birdie Okelberry. Prayers were by Patriarch Rex White and Bishop LuRay Draper. Lunch was served by the Stake Sunday School and $103.65 was n, STAKE C contributed to the building fund. Temple Marriages seemed to be the theme of the afternoon meeting with almost every speaker touching on some phase of it and well they might with the appallingly low percentage of Temple marriages in the stake during the past year. Speakers were Presidents L. W. Clayson, Fred W. Davis Joseph Fielding Smith and Patriarch Eldred G. Smith, Myrna Throckmorton, and George Forsey. Carmella Thomas and Lorna Diaper were released from Stake Primary and Rowcna Sorenson was sustained as Music Director to Y.W.M.I.A. Frank Sorenson was approved to be ordained to olfice of High Priest. Prayers were by Melvin Openshaw and Lee Bird. Theme of the Conference folder was Thou Shalt Not Covet. The M.I.A. Sunday evening service hed as its theme Gospel to all the Nations. It was appropriately carried out in talks by the following missionaries: Jack Okelberry, ' Douglas Clayscyi, Jay Johnson. Music from Douglas many lands included a song, Har , riet Hudson accompanied on Uke by Carolyn Borgeson; Folk songs, Ina Hansen and Court Nielson; Accordion solo,, Darel Conrad; Duet sung in Portuguese, Carmella and Bynan Thomas; and My solo, by Winnifred Testimony, diWhite. Rowene Sorenson rected the singing and Teddy McKay was at the organ. Theme was by Shiela Potts, and Scriptural reading was by LaVon Castleton. Prayers were by Richard Bell and Ronald Bird.
